"God made woman from man's hip to be at his side not from his ankle to be at his feet?"

I am not Christian. I was curious what church goers think of this quote? Does it represent your beliefs?

Its a quote from the Babylonian Talmud.

what it actually says is

"Be very careful if you make a woman cry, because God counts her tears. The woman came out of a man's rib. Not from his feet to be walked on. Not from his
head to be superior, but from the side to be equal. Under the arm to be protected, and next to the heart to be loved."

Well as i see it Adam was created in Gods image. Woman was taken out of man. Woman was weaker and was begiled. Part of the curse is that she would not rule over man. God established the order of the home as GOD, Husband, Wife and Children. As God has said woman is the weaker vessel and he can't lie one would be foolishe to think different. Thus God has set the stronger over the weaker for protection. I think that a good wife makes her husband feel as if he is a King. Thus building a Godly home and a strong home. A good wife also will be treated as a Queen for doing so. It is kind of interesting how many divorces we see today caused by the woman libers teaching wives to seek to be equal with there husbands. That is really why we have divorce today. A house can't be ruled by 2 rulers. Example most often men do the yard work and woman take care of the home. It has worked for thousands of years. In the 1900s all of the sudden woman wanted there husbands to be cooks and baby setters.
This put the men underfeet all the time. Creats stress and stran in the home. Men doing the yard work on the other hand allows men to breath and woman to breath. Less friction and actually provides for a clear picture of the arrangement between the two pardners. Woman are also more emotional then men. Thus men will not make money decisions in time of stress. This is a great reason for men to over see money. Because woman do not always understand what men may be doing with the money. Some woman will not all. Men are good with numbers woman read well. That is just a fact. I am in bussiness. I can work numbers to make a winfail on taxes two or three years down the road. I plan ahead. The greatest blessing in marriage is that both men and woman have good and bad skills. If a marriage is worked the right way all pardners give there best traits to the good of the marriage and are blessed.

I found a similar quote in Matthew Henry's Commentary on the Bible, and find it quite apropos. It says it this way:

"The woman was made from the rib he had taken out of the man; not made from his head to rule over him, nor out of his feet to be trampled on by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected by him, and near his heart to be beloved."

I would expect that most Christians would feel that it is a great sentiment, and speaks volumes about how God wants men to treat the women He has created.

Correction, the Genesis accounts states that God made woman (Eve) by using one of Adam's ribs, not his hips. Obviously one cannot interprete this account literally because men do not have a missing rib (unless the rib grew back in place).

It is interesting that Christians have reinterpreted this account to mean that women are equal to men. Is this the same Chrisitianity that prevents the ordination of women? Is this the same Christianity (so dominated by men) for which St. Paul states, "Suffer not a woman to speak"?

Modernity has debunked such primitive notions as the mental inferiority of women. It is a welcome development that even Fundamentalist Christians are interpreting the creation of Eve in the light of the zeitgeist.

Woman was meant to be the final touch to men. Everywhere in the Bible God tells men to value women highly, esp. wives and mothers. I love women personally. I couldn't imagine life without them. "Whoso findeth a virtuous woman findeth a good thing." Who could say it better? From Adam's side to be beside and with, not ahead, behind, over or under. A helper and friend, confidant and companion.

The Bible also says that Man was created in the image of God and woman was to keep him company (since the animals apparently couldn't). But again, most people don't buy that stuff anymore.

Actually the way I heard it was

God made woman from man's rib.
Not from his feet to be stepped upon
Not from his head to be over him
From his rib to be by is side and under the strength of his protective arm.

It's sort of simplistic but close to what I believe.

I am also not christian but the bible is certainly more than a little misogynistic at times. But not all christians follow the bible in a literal sense. Most have gotten with the times (of course, you will find troglodytes in any group, doesn't take faith).
