Nobody knows for sure. Children seem to be prone to it, especially if they sleepwalk too. Some people carry on whole conversations, while others just moan and make other sounds. If the frequency of sleep talking is bothering the family and disrupting sleep for others, there are some things you can keep in mind.
Make sure the sleep talker gets plenty of sleep every night, someone who is sleep deprived is more likely to sleep talk.
Reduce the stress and anxiety levels
Keep to a regular schedule of going to bed and getting up at the same time
Don't eat a heavy meal right before bedtime
If an episode occurs, make sure the sleep talker is safe and gently soothe them

Talking in sleep happens to people who are engrossed in their tasks. They are determine to complete it and are thinking about it most of the time when they are awake. This is where the subconscious mind tend to process the same task on it own independently. However when the person is awake the responses initiated by the subconscious mind may not be manifested but when the person is asleep the responses (of the subconscious mind ) such as talking about the task being undertaken by the person seem to manifest and thus people seem to talk in their sleep while they themselves are not aware of it.

Most people sleep walk and talk in their sleep when they are younger b/c they have more delta sleep which is stage 3 and 4 and in this stage you sleep walk and talk. It is more prevalence in young children and you grow out of it exactly why you don't sleep walk now. You could sleep talk for many reasons you are still young enough to have plenty of delta sleep to talk, but its most likely you get disturbed during your sleep so you fall out of a deep sleep stage 2, 3. 4, REM in stage 1 which is actually a transition stage sleep, many people do this. In REM, you are virtually paralyzed so the likely hood of you having a REM disorder is very slim.

Hello. In my opinion it is caused by stress or new experiences. Like in school if someone is making you furious then you might talk in your sleep. This in my opinion is an outlet for young peoples feeling that they don't want to say out loud.

i would like to do some experiments on you!!
like tape recording a question and answer period.
then play it back to you when you are awake.
try that and see if you are correct in your responses.
you may have to [dig] a little in some info. but it could turn out educational.
also this may sound stewpid but it really works. cause i have tried it.
all you do is have a friend wait until you are fully asleep/ place your left hand in cool water and say to you 3 times
that [you will not talk in your sleep]
believe me this works!!
