A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie. ~Tenneva Jordan
Mother is the name for God in the lips and hearts of little children.
- William M. Thackeray
A mother is a person who if she is not there when you get home from school you wouldn't know how to get your dinner, and you wouldn't feel like eating it anyway.
- Anonymous
~~~I remember my mother always telling us that the back of the chicken was her favorite piece. So when I was about 12 years old, I cooked her a whole pan of chicken backs for Mother's Day - because they were her favorite. She ate every one.
It still makes me teary to think about it - and she's been gone for 25 years now.~~~
Thanks for the question....... it made me cry, but put a smile on my face at the same time.
And I'm glad that you have such a sweet memory of your mother.
my dad is almost 50. recently he had to go back to school for more job opportunities, and had quite a few revelations when back in college. one was
" I've forgotten more than I'll ever know." This is quite true. Think of all the things you've learned over the years. now, out of all that information, how much of it have you forgotten? statistics say more that you've remembered:)
I drove past some business with a billboard that, instead of advertising directly, had the phrase
"Anything unattempted remains impossible."
I think it speaks for itself, and it's one of those 'don't diss it until you've tried it' quotes. I dont remember what business it was, but i wasnt expecting to read something that intellectual on its billboard, that's for sure. The quote has an unknown author, but it was first documented(and thought to originate) around the 1870's.
I remembered reading two more quotes when i was doing a project my senior year of highschool.
" The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese."
"A man who sleeps on the floor will not fall out of bed" - Chinese Proverb.
I always like a bit of preventative thinking :)
One of my favorite quotes that has been attributed to lots of different times and people is the "Desiderata." Some people who remember it being made into a recording in the 70s may consider it schmaltzy, but I first read it in my 8th grade math teacher's room. She had it posted on a simple, white piece of paper, in typewritten form (back before printers existed). I read it then, at age 13, and now, nearly 40 years later, I still believe it's a piece of very wise prose:
Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.
i do no longer think of only the notice of God, yet i think of God is interior of us. In my reviews, i'm coming to locate that there is not any longer lots separation between our 'inner' lives and our 'outer' lives, we only tend to % out it that way. Our inner lives look far greater expansive, yet yet a marvelous type of commonalities interior of different people as quickly as we actually get to comprehend them. hence i'm commencing to think of that the subject we call the 'inner' international, or our 'inner selves' is a single concern, an extremely dynamic yet consistent concern, that shares itself subjectively by each and each people.
