Just write a letter saying you want to leave it and sign it. Request in that letter to receive written confirmation of your VOLUNTARY DEMISSION from the Church.

Send a copy to your Bishop, a copy to your Stake President, and a copy to Church Headquarters. Say also in the letter that per US laws, you expect the action to be taken promptly and to have your written confirmation within 30 days.

First if someone wants to leave the church, they just write a letter to the bishop and ask for their name to be removed from the records.

If a person commits a serious sin such as abortion or adultery or commits a felony, they would have a church court. At that time they could be counseled, be disfellowshipped (denied the sacrament) or be excommunicated. The decision is based on the best way to bring the person to repentance. If a person is excommunicated they lose the blessings of any ordinances, and have to start over again, if they rejoin the church.

I'd say, if you're looking to be excommunicated from any church, not to join it in the first place. But, if you were LDS, you could be excommunicated for any number of things. It just depends on the heinousness of the act and whether or not you are willing to repent of it.

Probably just about anything that would get you excommunicated from any other church. If you do follow the doctrine and teachings of any church, you would loss fellowship from it if you deny the church's efforts to reconcile with you.

good question but why....
if you practiced polygamy is a bad bad thing, pornagraphy, and did drugs very bad. also engaging in homosexual behavior is very bad. it doesnt say we cant love these people or care for them or help them but these are no nos and depending on the bishops of the church they could either counsel privately or last resorts are excommunication. but excommunications are last resorts to get them back to god .its more of a wake up call to ask them to reevaluate their lives

Just write a letter that you want your name removed from the records of the church, sign it, and deliver it to your Bishop. They'll try to contact you, but if you just ignore them, they'll do it in a month or so. It's not that hard a process.

It depends on the individual and that persons state of mind; there is no set rule, per se, although I'm sure if you murdered someone you probably would be, committed adultery would likely do it...a number of heinous things. When it comes down to it it is the persons heart before God.

Heh, I don't think you'd be excommunicated very easily from such a church, really.

Drink coffee, Coca Cola, and watch TV! Have a glass of real wine versus grape juice. Argue with them against how there is no substantial evidence to prove that Christ came to North America and that the bible is contradictory. That should pretty well do it! You could also ask them where the $9 billion dollars in revenue are going to each year while you're at it!
