Focus your words to be objective, reciting the issues and the rationale for your beliefs, while avoiding polemics and flippancy.

Ignore the loud, proud, and rude. Don't cast your pearls before swine.

It is in our nature to be on the defensive. To fight that I recommend having a humble attitude toward God. Who is to say that God doesn't use people to show us what needs to be seen?

Philippians 2:3 says, " Do nothing out of rivalry or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves." We could take that to mean that by being humble we can see how we can learn from anyone, even someone we might think we are better than. I am always humbled when that happens to me because i know it is Gods way of telling me not to have too big a head.

Proverbs 12:1 in NAB says: " He who loves correction loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid." Reproof is blame for a fault.

This means to know when you are wrong and to freely accept criticism and to open to be corrected. My grandmother once told me that a mistake is only a mistake if you learn from it. If you don't learn and you keep doing it, you are just stupid. Many times in the NT Jesus refers to children. Children are always learning and have to be open to learning from their mistakes and have to listen to their parents and teachers constantly tell them what they are doing wrong. Hopefully without having a temper tantrum. Be like a child and just listen to what others have to say about what you've done. If you don't agree right then and there, tell them that you will think about. Take time to mull it over, talk to others about it, get others' opinions. If they are right, accept their criticism and thank them. If they aren't right, thank them anyways and let it go without an argument.

The flesh is always going to be stung by criticism but the person who is walking in the spirit of God will put the feelings of the flesh aside and focus on the word of God.

Pro 12:1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof (correction) is brutish. (foolish)

If you love learning or being taught you love knowledge.

So, reply thank you for that information.

About Reproof:
Verify the information you are being reproofed on and learn, if the information is incorrect go back and teach the one who misinformed you.

We all have certain 'absolutes' we hold on to whether they are actually Truth or not. The best thing to do is listen and then take it to prayer and scriptures, don't settle on a Truth until you have a complete understanding of it. :)

take the answer, see if it lines up with God's word, then see how if you apply it to your life it might help you or others.
If you take advice as a help aid not a take down it's eaiser not to be defensive.
