“For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19 RSV) Clearly the Old Testament is to be abided by until the end of human existence itself. None other then Jesus said so.

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place." (Matthew 5:17 NAB)

I gotta tell ya, it doesn't sound like Jesus meant for you guys to be ignoring the old testament stuff....

Ent wife...you have interesting and convenient answers. Why does it stop at the resurrection?
That's arbitrary. Why not at the 2nd coming, judgement day, etc...why not one of those days?
Why? Because you'd still have to be following the old laws, that's why.
Thanks.

Thank you! This is what I've been trying to say for ages now - just because you're a "Christian" doesn't mean that the Old Testament is invisible. But I'm sure they'll come up with some crap about how you're wrong or taking it out of context. They loooove to do that.

Jesus didn't tell us to "ignore" the Old Testament. On the contrary, He quoted it often. But He also stated that He was a "fulfillment" of the Law. We are now under new covenant, and we go by that now, rather than being under Mosaic Law.

BUT.... The Old Testament demonstrates the rebellion and sin of mankind. It truly shows us our spiritual condition, and points to our need for redemption. It sets us up for the Messiah, which was fulfilled in Jesus. Without the Old Testament pointing towards Christ, we would not understand the point of the New Testament.

To know where you are going, it helps to know where you have been.

no. we are saying the old covenant became good, however the hot covenant is greater advantageous. one did no longer get rid of the different. the old is known interior the hot and the hot is printed interior the old. no longer spectacular because of the fact the e book got here from the infinite One. and do you already know Jesus Christ says interior the millennial kingdom there'll nevertheless be sacrifices interior the temple? that folk will nevertheless notice the sabbath? why? because of the fact the harmless blood of animals being shed in atonement verified the destiny windfall of God interior the laying off of Jesus' blood. so will the destiny generations supply glory to that journey by ability of doing a similar. that is not any longer barbaric, it incredibly is God's tale written interior the creatures itself. sinful guy would desire to have a protecting and there is not any forgiveness of sins devoid of the offering of blood. harmless blood in substitute for to blame blood.

Jesus also states that the law is imperfect incomplete. You could follow every iota of the law and not have a relationship with God. Jesus life, death, and resurrection, had the purpose of making a real relationship with God possible. We are to live above the law at a higher standard, not without it, nor just abiding every letter. The law was powerless to make people love God and their neighbor. God pouring his love out on us at the Cross was the step in that direction.

Jesus came to FULFIL the law because man was unable to fulfil it.

Can those who follow Him now violate the law? Of course not.

Its like you cannot take poison cos you'll die and someone was sent to take the poison on your behalf. But yet you return to take the poison yourself!

If a person continues to sin purposefully AFTER baptism, the bible says the person is DAMNED. Baptism is to be in this order - repent then baptise. If there is no true repentance, the baptism is of no purpose and no effectiveness.

If a person is truly repentant, the person will seek to obey the law. Of course, not as one under it, but as one saved from it because of God.

*** Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 27But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. 28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? ***

As Christians we do not ignore the old testament. If we did then the new testaments would be incomplete. Like you used above, Jesus came to fullfil the law. He was the last sacrifice that was to be given to God for our sins, he became the perfect preist, he fullfilled prophesy. Yes things like the ten comamndments still apply to us today, but we also must take into account what other things God has revealed to us through Jesus and the disceples in the New Testament.
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
K.K.

We are not under the old covenant we have a new and better covenant because Jesus did what no man could do. He fulfilled the law and IN Him we have also fulfilled it. We are no longer under the law and its powers ( curses).
Some say we are now under grace, but it is written in Rom. 5:2 that we stand in this state of grace. It is a lot better than being under. If you have to work for anything you are putting yourself under the law and subject yourself to its curses. If you have to work for it you are making yourself god of your life. All things are possible to him who believes (thinks in God). No thing is impossible with God.

until all is accomplished.....meaning until Christ dies and is resurrected, thus fulfilling the law, oh but wait, you quoted that too: I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.

That law was fulfilled by Jesus Christ. We are under His covenant now. Blessings to you.

EDIT - See the story regarding the transfiguration of Christ. That is when He came into His fullness. If you don't want to believe, fine, but don't belittle Christians for it either. Oh and by the way, the New Covenant is actually a lot harder to follow than the old one.

Here's a fortune cookie and some hot tea. Enjoy!

Yes well let's be thankful they've learned to ignore most of the Bible and hope Muslims follow their example with regard to the Quran.
