The synthatic THC pill, Marinol, is absolutely a lifesaver. I take it for nausea associated with my medications. I was put on it during a miscarriage. The pregnancy made me so nauseous I couldn't be awake for more than baout 2 minutes without vomitting. I couldn't eat, couldn't keep down my pain medicine, and Phenergan and Zofran suppositories were doing absolutely NOTHING ( and were unbearably unpleasant to use!). My pain doctor gave me the Marinol, and within 2 hours I was eating and pain-free from being able to keep down my meds. I can only imagine how it must help chemo patients.
As far as legalizing marijuana, I think we ought to figure out a way to tax it like cigarettes and go for it. It's pretty ridiculous (to me at least) when I watch those "To Catch a Predator" shows on Dateline and see those child molesters get probation because there's no room for them since our jails and prisons in the US are overcrowded from non-violent marijuana offenders being put away. It's no more addictive or dangerous than alcohol; I've hung around potheads my entire life and I've never seen one wrap a car around a tree while high on pot... they don't have enough motivation to get off of the couch.

I'm all for it and I don't smoke. Read an article in Playboy some years ago written by a doctor who was not only against the use of marijuana for glaucoma and such but thought that the idea was totally without merit.
His son had a form of cancer from which there was no chance of recovery. Chemo had reduced his son to a shell of his former self. He wouldn't eat, had no energy and was losing his color. What he did eat he would vomit because of the treatment.
Finally the man's wife approached him and asked about the marijuana. It hurt her tremendously to see her son wasting away like this. The doctor said no until the wife, with tears in her eyes and anger in her voice, told her husband that if he didn't get their son some pot she would do it herself.
Long story short: the marijuana helped alleviate the vomiting, restore his appetite which in turn helped him regain a good portion of his energy. Not to mention his mood which had improved dramatically.
They lost their son eventually, as was expected, but the doctor saw the improvement in the quality of life in his son's last remaining days. The doctor is now an advocate.
Best Wishes!

Marijuana definitely has medical benefits. People that suffer from migraines, nausea, pain, insomnia, depression, anorexia and tons of other conditions benefit greatly from marijuana. I just recently moved to California and was referred to this great doctor that helped me to become a legal patient. You can learn more here www.accsocal.com.

I think marijuana should be used for medical reasons, it is an effective neurodialator, and it has no long term effects if used in short does.

For medical reasons yes, as a nurse who has worked palliative care for years I have given the terminally ill pot and that is fine with me. Perhaps a few years ago I might have agreed with you and said it is harmless and should be legalised, but not now. I live in a regional area and have seen the consequences of people being stoned, unable to work, no motivation, no life.
