Tthe opthalmologist or optometrist most likely diagnosed you with slight astigmatism. which is not a very detrimental one. It's just another visual defect such as near-sightedness or far-sightedness. I, myself is near-sighted and has astigmatism. I also have photophobia; i.e,sensitivity to bright lights. From all the symptoms you describe esp with the tension or pressure headaches, I would look into possible sinus infection or chronic sinusitis.

Most likely, the doctor ordered Cat Scan to rule out any brain growths or tumors. I'm sure it will come back with negative result.s.

There are two types of sinus infection: acute and chronic sinusitis. Acute sinusitis could be caused by the common colds, allergic rhinitis or hay fever, and the flu.and infection. Symptoms of pain usually occurs where the sinuses are particularly affected. If you have a bout of more than four episodes per year, then it's termed chronic sinusitis.

These cavernous or paranasal sinuses are located mostly in the cheekbones in the face and are easily viewed via CAT SCAn or MRI of the head.

Sinuses are the hollow spaces around the cheek bones that warm, filter and moisten the air. These passages have a very essential responsibility in sustaining a person’s health. Healthy sinuses have a direct effect on the overall well-being of a person. When the sinuses get clogged it can cause headaches, allergy headaches, sinus congestion, colds; post nasal drip, and sinus infections.

There are even cases of severe maxillary sinuses infection that pts underwent dental work. They attributed their problems to toothaches when in reality it was sinus infection.

I used to have a long history of migraine headaches. It should to start from the base of the neck radiating to the temples and across the forehead. The pains get so severe, i become nauseous, my feet and hands get so clammy. I feel dizzy and unsteady on my feet. I get so sensitive to bright lights. I just want to lie down in a dark room.

Eventually, after a Cat Scan showed two nasal polyps; i went to see an EENT Specialist who diagnosed me with Chronic sinusitis and recommended surgery. I underwent sinus drainage surgery. The surgeondiscovered I have diffused nasal polyps. These were taken out and sent for biopsy testing. Since the surgery; I have been successful in keeping my sinuses well drained and avoid sinus congestion and thus the headaches. I regularly take antihistaminics to treat my nasal allergies.

Hopefully, I thoroughly answered all of your questions .These migraine or pressure headaches are caused by the sinus congestion. They can cause pressure behind the eyes and thus, blurry vision.

As you can see, acute sinusitis or sinus infection can cause migraine headaches, nausea, and vertigo, sore throats and even toothache. I've been also tested for MS and ruled out. MS and MG exhibit more symptoms than from what you described.. It affects more than the equilibrium.. I mentioned this because you're concerned about being unsteady. Having acute or chronic sinusitis would also cause being unsteady as there is a close correlation between the nose; eyes and ears because of the adjacent locations of these organs. .

For serious eye checkups, be sure you go to an ophthalmologist. Not just an optometrist. They are specialists, and have more education. I was diagnosed with glaucoma in my early 30's. I started with blurry vision, but these come with no pain or headaches.
If your headache is on one side of the head, it's a migraine headache. These are severe, and people are sensitive to light when they have migraines. I know people take Immetrix for these. Decreasing your stress helps, too. My dad has hardly had any since his retirement.

Are you sure the Dr. didn't say the word "astigmatism"? That's just a slight irregularity on the surface of your eye. It makes your vision slightly out of focus, sort of like looking through a lens with a fingerprint on it. It will cause headaches from straining your eyes in an attempt to focus clearly. It's correctable with glasses, or even with contact lenses if it's not a severe case.

A lot of times its just your eyes getting tired. A good way to ensure that you don't go blind is take breaks every hour or two on the computer for 10 minutes. Do figure 8's with your eyes and then focus on things close and far away in quick succession. Also get plenty of sleep so that your eyes can recover.
