The kitten and its same sex litter mate are very standoffish and their breed is very friendly. I am considering separating them too.

That's normal. My cat licks itself all the time, and he;s not a kitten anymore. He's weird too- he likes jumping up on my bed at night and walking around my entire body and then eventually lays down on the pillow next to my head!

I had a cat that would suck on the tip of his tail until he was about 7 years old. It's really not a problem if you can deal with the noise.
