I've been mulling over finding out and practicing the science of hypnosis. But as a Christian man, I'm not sure if having that kind of desire is sinful or not in the eyes of God, and in the light of His Word (the Bible). Therefore, can any of my spiritual siblings in Christ Jesus tell me if wanting to study hypnosis is, in fact, a sin or not (please provide Scripture references, please). Thank you all. And may the best/sanctified answer win!

I think it would be wrong to make a decision one way or the other without researching it heavily from both perspectives. Aside from the websites I give, I urge you to look at the Bible verses they give and be sure to take them into context, and know if the verses CAN relate to hypnotism or not.

You're in control of your life, but in hypnotism, you're also in control of someone else's life. Be sure that if you decide it's okay, that you're willing to take full responsibility for their thoughts and actions during the process. I know I couldn't.

Depends on your motives. And your education level. I know clinical hypnosis and it should only be taught to and done by someone with at least a Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work or a medical degree. It is a very powerful tool and in the wrong hands for the wrong reason, not to be used.

Hypnosis is indeed a state of increased suggestability, but everything anyone does under hypnosis is certainly within their own free will to do so.

Not a complete answer, but I hope it helps somewhat. (I'm not someone you should ask about sin, because I don't believe in it)

To be willing to allow someone else control of the mind and the sub-consciousness, seems to be like opening a can of worms. Isn't that the area of one's soul? I myself believe that hypnosis is an invitation to evil spirits to come right in and make yourself at home, the door is open folks!

My thoughts on hypnosis; it is dangerous to mess with peoples minds, we don't understand the damage that could be done. My thoughts on how Christians should view hypnosis, don't participate in it.

I believe it is dangerous to change peoples minds like that. Christians should not participate in it.

There is no such thing as a sin, just a word that people with power use to keep you in line.

You might try getting in touch with reality first.
