I'm an aussie and my preference is Royal Canin (cats like to eat it and I can see it's doing them good) or Nutrience (they will eat it if it's all I give them and they are healthy on it too) and they're easily available to me. Two of my cats were adopted and have had tummy problems and they're on Iam's hairball, it does stop the runs, but I don't know why, personally i'd avoid it if I could though. Advance is a good quality at a reasonable price and I have used that, I also use it for the dogs. Science diet is ok but I think you can get better for that price. If I had to use a supermarket food, then it would be Optimum or VIP.
Feed the best quality you can afford and if your cat is doing well, has a shiny coat and is healthy, fit and happy, then that's what counts.
I can't chop and change a lot because of the two with tummy problems so if you find one that works for your cat, stick with it.
There are others such as Innova and Nutro and Eagle Pack but they're hard to get, they're supposed to be better than the others but I think the premiums are all much of a muchness, it comes down to personal preference and what works for your cat. They may seem expensive but they do last longer, we were buying a pack of supermarket brand every few days (they contain a lot of fillers, they're junk food and it's stuff can't don't use, they also have lots of salt in them to make them tasty to the cat but that's bad), now I buy RC every two months so it is cheaper. They don't eat as much and the litterbox doesn't have as much smell or poop to clean out.
See if you can get samples, many produce stores have them cheap and then you can decide which is better for your pet. (you can always mix it in with one they like, they don't always notice).

I live in Australia and I too have found it hard to find a high quality dry food for cats here. I found that my local pet shop sells Innova dry food for cats and kittens and although I don't use it, know that it is ONE of the best foods you can buy for a cat. I'm currently feeding my kittens Purina. It's not great but they are very health and very happy, which is the main thing.
Innova kitten food usually costs $20 for a 3kg bag and $55 for a 7.5kg bag.

The canned is good, however the prices jumped from 69 cents to $1.15 in a few months. When it doubled I switched to Trader Joe's canned cat food.

Royal Canin has a lawsuit against them for selling tainted food. They sell food for a high price, but there are many more kinds that are far superior for the same or less money.
