How old should your child or children be, before they stop showering with you or seeing you naked? Does this age change with the sexes too?

it should only stop when the child expresses discomfort or embarrassment. respect their privacy and let them call the shots about what they see. if they know in advance how the anatomy looks, they'll be less likely to look elsewhere for examples!

This is really a western question. You and only you can decide when the time is right. If you shower with your child and it is a child of the opposite gender and you or they become uncomfortable with the situation, by all means, stop. In many other cultures, there is an openess that exists with the family bathing. Japan is one of them, from which I am descended and I am a mother of a 6 yr old girl who still showers with me on occasion to save time. She showered with my husband (her father) up to age 5 and we have never made an issue of it. If she wanted to jump in the tub with him now, it still wouldn't be an issue as she already knows what the male body looks like. Children are naturally curious about the body of the opposite gender and if they have never seen it, then you can be sure they will be playing "doctor" sometime in their future. If they are already aware, it becomes "no big deal" information. There really isn't an age limit, but what is acceptable in your society and comfortable in your home. However, that said, keep in mind that appropriate behaviors should be monitored.

I think that the opposite sex parent should stop showering with their child(ren) when the child starts noticing differences. I think the same sex parent should continue for as long as it feels comfortable for you both. I showered with my daughters up until they were about 4 or 5 and that was only occasionally, when we were in a rush. Daddy never showered with them bcs he wasn't comfortable with it.

Your children will send you cues... take their lead. My 9 y/o is at the age where she doesn't like anyone to see her naked, so of course I respect that. My 6 y/o still streaks through the house after her shower so.... it varies from child to child.

I think this is a decision to be made by each person in the family. When children start to ask for privacy, it's time to stop, but if they never protest, then, it's ok. Most kids don't see a problem with being naked in front of people unless someone teaches them to have a problem with it. I don't think it will harm them becasue there are nudest communities all over the world that have children living with them. Normal is only determined by the person living the normalcy.

i think i was about 5 before i stopped having showers and stuff with my parents. when we started school. was about the same for my brother and sister.

but were all in our 20's now and we still see our parents naked on occassion. my brother and i wouldnt really like seeing our mum naked but my sister talks to her if shes in the shower or getting changed or something. and its no big deal.

we're a pretty open family with everything...but nothing is right or wrong...

That is a question that the answer would vary for everyone.
I would say now, that I would probably stop showering or bathing naked etc with my child when he got to about 8. But as I say, I can't answer 100% because my son is only 2 now.
I think this would be the same age for both sexes.
Everyone is different though, I had a friend who didn't like changing his newborn daughters nappy because he had to touch her 'down there'......???????????

all this 7 and 8 stuff is scaring the hell out of me here. for child that is same sex there is no legal age to stop hanging around without your clothes on though the shower bit would get you a visit from child services if thier teacher finds out when they are 6 or 7. if you are opposite sex from the child 2 or 3 is about as far as you can safely go in most states as a legal issue. in most states you have to seperate your children by age 5 if they are of opposite sex.

before I catch all the freaks and deviants out there telling me how they have a son and daughter who are 15 or something like that and staying in the same room I will re-iterate the part about the STATE LAW that restricts this. if you are caught out of compliance of this law you can loose your kids among other legal wows. this is in about three quarters of the states as a law, so depending on the state you are in I would recomend playing it safe and making the cutoff before 5.

When they start showing interest in your body is when I put a stop to it. I think my girls were about 3 years old. I didn't shower with them often, just when we were in a hurry. As far as opposite sex, I would say 1 or 2 at the latest.
