I bought a couple bird toys for my parakeet, and she doesn't seem to have interest in them. I was wondering if there was a more popular toy that parakeets enjoy playing with.

The good news is that you don't have to spend a lot on toys for your guy!

I have two females who I've had for several years. The older one isn't much into toys and prefers to sit and watch things quietly. The younger girl, however, lives up to her name: Buzzsaw. Buzz chews up everything from paper to wood to an entire cork board I USED to have. If it can be destroyed, she'll destroy it!

One of her favorite destructibles is a paper towel tube cut up into 1 inch wide rings. I stick them on a shoelace or on part of her swing and they're gone by the end of the night! Another toy that doesn't last long is cheerios strung on a shoelace. Her third favorite was the Chola (sp?) bong that I bought from a local pet store. It's really soft cactus wood and the little stinker tore it apart in two days. Certainly a feat for such a tiny girl!

I've had several birds and none of them were really into mirrors. Bells are amusing for a while, but if they see them all the time, my birds start to ignore them. You may want to experiment, tho. My cockatiels go nuts for bells and for once, one of my tiels is actually a mirror fanatic! Some birds love plastic things that they can move. Others are into foraging toys where foods are hidden inside things and the bird has to find the goodies inside.

Good luck!

My parakeets all enjoyed bells and swinging perches. They usually had another parakeet in the cage with them, though, so they never seemed bored. They'd play around on the swings and play with the bell a lot, along with playing with each other.

If your bird is uninterested with her toys, try switching them up. Have around five toys, and put them in one at a time. Once she starts getting bored with a toy, which I would think would take a couple weeks, replace it with a different one. Changing things up might make things more interesting for her.

Are you able to take your parakeet out of her cage? Is she used to people, in that she'd perch on your finger and ride on your shoulder? If not, I'd recommend getting her a companion. Parakeets are pretty social animals. If she isn't very socially involved with you, she's probably longing for a friend.

Good luck!

I have a little yellow budgie bird and I've tried giving him expensive store bought toys but he doesn't play with them. So I decided to make my own play toys for him.

He likes the bells I make for him. I put little bells on the bottom of three ribbons and he will play with those bells for a long time. I put a simple swing in his cage and he loves to push it with his beak and he's quite occupied.

he's probable nevertheless adjusting. He could initiate taking part in while he gets extra well-off. yet all keets are distinctive, mine would not play that lots, he prefers to sing and make noise while he's bored, yet my different parakeet continuously performed along with her toys. attempt to have considered one of those toys, then you certainly can verify which form he likes maximum.

I don't know what they like to play with, but I know what you should not get for them...mirrors and things for them to cuddle up to. The reason for that being that they will bond with the bird in the mirror or the fuzzy thing instead of bonding with you.

One other thing, if your bird is still new, she may need time to get used to the cage and your house before she feels comfortable playing with toys.

Birds like things they can chew and destroy...so whatever you get for them, don't be so attached that you will be hurt when they destroy it.

Good luck!

Every one that I have had loved the little mirror with the bell attached. They play with it and 'talk' to it for hours.
