Exactly! I have been trying to find that out myself this afternoon. Pet Connection.com is keeping tabs on the situation and is asking this very same question. Unfortnately, Menufoods has not disclosed who that supplier is - the one that they dropped! Drives one crazy!
My best move is to feed my cats a food(s) that:
1. is NOT in the list
2. has no wheat gluten in the ingredients
3. a cat food producer that has no other products that is in that list of recalled pet food.

I agree with you. For all pet owner's out there, please avoid cuts and gravy style dog food for at least a month. It will take Menu that long to restock their customers. My Wal-Mart has finally got some fresh pouches in that has been made after the recall. I bought some and feed it to a wild cat. I'm happy to report that Furball is doing fine and wants more. Thank you Menu for caring as to voluntarily making this recall. It shows to the consumer that you really care. I will still continue to purchase the products you make. And folks, remember the Diamond recall about a year ago? They fixed their problems as well but were forced too. Menu wasn't forced. They did it at will. Even our food can be bad at times, remember the spinach problem with ecoli? Menu has resolved the problem with their supplier and has gone back to their old one. They are still looking into this and with the wheat gluten. Go to www.menufoods.com/recall for a complete listing of all dog and cat foods that have been recalled.

First, I would try requesting the brand you want - and of course, make it something people can afford. There's no bigger turnoff than a rescue saying they 'only feed Blue buffalo"...or organic...ugh. But seriously, some people will donate te right kind, if you specify why you are asking for it. Hill's did in fact have a shelter program, but you had to adhere to some rules. You might look into that. And get to know the local store managers in the chain stores - and let thme know you are looking for a certain brand - they should be able to help with returned or broken bags, and wirte them off, since you should have a nonprofit tax ID to give them. The random bags of dog food donated could be diverted to the local food pantry - the effect will be that some dogs, at least, are kept by their owners rather than being dropped off at your shelter.

Really tho, the people that he is supplying to, they aren't doing any testing so it's not entirely his fault.. The entire pet food industry seems to be lacking when it comes to testing product to make sure that it's good before it leaves. Seems that they put out the food, and if there is a problem, they recall it, rather than never having it on the shelves when there's a problem..
Menufoods knew about this Feb 20th or something when they were first notified by people who were losing pets. They waited nearly a month before they did anything. BUT still Iams and everyone else didn't test or do anything either... So who is to blame, the one who provided it to everyone or everyone who also neglected to test before using or selling their products?

I have read that in order for someone to intentionally contaminate the entire supply of wheat that came from this particular supplier (incidentally, in China...why are we not using domestic wheat for this?) it would take at least 500 pounds of the aminopterin. That would be bales and bales of it. This could not have been an accident or else they have some HUGE rats in China!!

Actually, it was found to be rat poison in the food causing the problem. Was someone at that new supplier putting the rat poison in or someone at Menu Foods?

All dry foods are OK. The best food to get (this is what I give my cat) is Friskies wet food. All Purina food is Ok EXCEPT MIGHTY DOG POUCHES!
Hope this helps!
