Hands down the best thing for me is a rice sock. Just get on old sock, fill it with rice, knot the end, and microwave until warm. The heat and the weight of it really works wonders for cramps. They gave me one at the hsopital for the cramping pain I had after I had a procedure to donate my eggs to a couple, and it worked even better than the 100 mgs of Demeral they shot me up with. It's also really useful now when I'm on my period; due to my chronic pelvic pain it's the most brutal pain imaginable and sometimes even my breakthrough meds can't get rid of most of it, but a rice sock helps every time and is much cheaper than those heat wraps you can get at the drug store.

there's a yoga pose great for cramps - it's commonly called "child's pose" Basically you start on your hands and knees, and then slowly sink back towards your legs keeping your arms stretched out in front of you. You can rest all the way back (bringing feet together so you're kind of sitting on your feet but still stretching forward) or only go as far back as your comfortable with - you can always look it up if you need a better explaination :-)

Use a heating pad, soak in a warm bathtub or exercise.

are you pregnant? if you are, before you go to sleep massage your calves..if not, flex your feet until you feel that the muscles are loosening,it will hurt at first but you will be relieved afterwards..and as prevention always drink plenty of water or juices because fluid loss in muscles will cause cramps.

Heat is your friend. Put a warm pack on it. They also say exercise is good. Hope this helps.
