First you need to talk to a vet. Puppies should not be taken away from their mother a least 8 weeks old. The best food is given him wet food. He can get used to the food. It is like feeding him the first time solid food. Housetraining can begin after each meal and when the puppy gets up in the morning and before bed.

First, PLEASE check the list for tainted foods. Wet foods are the ones imparticular to watch for, and there's no guarentee they have all been pulled. If the food is safe, give it the same one as the breeder used. If you decide to change do it slowly & mix the foods for a while.
Housetraining should have started with the breeder. I use a child's wrap-around pen when I can't watch her. This gives them room to move, & helps not only potty training but keeps them safe from hazards around the house. Paper or pee pads work well. Watch the dog for circling and then put it in the spot to wee wee on.
8 wks would be a good time to leave the mother.
Don't know about health plan, but ask around for the best vet to use. I had an emergency call and the vet NEVER answered till 7 hours later. I was forced to rush her to an emergency vet that I didn't know.......bad feeling.

8-12 weeks is the recommended age to be removed from their mother & littermates.
Puppy food is best, preferably good quality. Should be on puppy diet until he/she is 1 yr old. DRY kibble, not wet (canned/pouched). You can soak the kibble in water, if the puppy has difficulties eating it, but slowly use less water, to adjust the puppy to dry kibble as soon as you can.
The puppy will need 2 rounds of puppy shots, and spay/neuter. Try to find a health plan that covers most puppy basics.
Housetraining should be started immediately. (I raised 2 litters of puppies, and both litters were housetrained by the time they were released to new homes, around 8-12 weeks old). Might take longer, for small breeds.

6-8 weeks is the best age to remove them from their mom.
Try IAMS Puppy Chow, this is what I fed my Pomeranian puppy.
Begin housetraining right away at 6-8 weeks, as soon as he is taken home.
You should take him to a veterinarian to get all the appropriate shots, your vet will know what he needs.
For advice on training, try the book "Communicating with Your Dog" by Ted Baer.

8 weeks is the normal healthy typical age for all and any type of puppy. house training and regular training can start immediately when taken home. be sure to take your puppy outside right when you get home and show him the apporpiate place to go potty. and keep taking him there everytime he needs to go. soft foods are good at first i was feeding my pitt pup pedigree but there are a large variety of different brands of foods to choose from, its really your preference, since then i've switched to IAMs and alternate between treats and organic foods. health plans: your vet would be the best place for setting out a health plan for your pup and his long years with you.
the best of luck!

anytime after 8 weeks is best.purina one has a puppy food that is for small breed dogs.you can start house breaking as soon as he comes home.however he will not be able to hold it real good until he is 12 weeks old.just make sure he gets all hims shots and is wormed on schedule.do all that and you should have a happy and healthy puppy.
