I have went to 4 different vets in 2 weeks, and so far no one can explain why my dog has almost lost her life to a severe allergic reaction that almost closed her breathing passages. My dog has had blood in her urine, and her tummy is red and hot. I have done everything humanly possible and avoided any trigger for allergies, my floor and anything in her reach is spotless & chemical/dye free. She is on antibiotics but she is still passing blood, her blood test have came up normal . My mom thinks it was the tainted dog food, but is on a mild home-made diet from the vet but only a little better, also her kidneys tested normal. Her hemoglobin (red blood cells) were up. She cleared up with prednisone but they won't leave her on it, and I'm afriad she'll go into another attack. Please remember before leaving comments, I have taken her to many vets. Thank you all.

Try taking her to a holistic vet, if there is one near wear you live. Other things you could try is switching your dog to a raw food diet, either home made or pre-made from a company such as Nature's Variety. If you do decide to go home made you should do some research first. Another idea is to add either Organic Apple Cider Vinegar or Coconut Oil to her food, read these website to find out more info.

I hope this helps.

The prednisone is a type of steroid and it will usually help build up a dog or cats immune system. As for the allergic reaction my vet prescibed Benadryl and this seems to help. Be careful I don't know what you dog weighs and you don't want to over dose your pet. But it helps with allergies and itching sometimes caused by the allergic reaction.

You could always try homeopathic treatment. There's a company called Homeopet that makes homeopathic remedies for pets. My dog had a terible skin rash that cost me over $1500 at the vets for tests, etc. Antibiotics & steroids helped for a bit, but only for a while. I give my little guy two 'over-the-counter' homeopatic remedies that really seem to help him. I also give him daily flax seed oil, borage oil, & Omega 3 fish oil in his food. All those oils are natural anti-inflammatories that keep the inflammation down. 1 teas. per 25 lbs. Calcium is also a natural anti-inflammatory. A little of that will help. Do a google search of Homeopathic pet remedies and I'm sure that you'll find some great help. The Natural Canine is also a great company to work with. They have really helped me in the past. Best of luck to you & your doggy.

Try placing a wet cool cloth on her, this will help sooth her inflamed skin. I'd also suggest bathing her again but with no products this time, just to make sure any residual product form the last bath is completely gone. Then get her into to the vet tomorrow asap! Have you had an allergy test done on her? I would definitely consider getting one done to figure out what exactly she is reacting to. There are different Hypo foods, discuss the results of the last one with your vet so they can recommend a different kind/brand with alternative proteins and carbs. Maybe even ask about doing a home cooked diet for now, limited, controlled ingredients until you can get to the bottom of this. God Luck!

The first thing to do is determine what is causing the allergic reaction , and that will require allergy testing.

You do not want to leave her on prednisone longterm if atr all possible, the person above stated it makes the immune system stronger which is totally wrong, it is infact suppress the immune system and can causing very nasty effects when used longtern for example cushings disease, it causes osteoporosis which can cause bones to fracture, increases the frequency or severity of infections and decreases the effectiveness of vaccines and antibiotics can lead to organ damage , seizures muscle weakness, ulcers, impaired wound healing, glaucoma, cataracts, psychotic behavior.

It used to be commonly prescribed handed put like candy for skin problems 20 years ago , my cocker spent 3years on, he deteriated rapidly I lost him just after his 7th birthday due to the side effects, so hald his life span was lost, and in the last year his skin problems were a total nightmare continually infected, he could barely walk, real odd behaviour, he age before my eyes, was continually sick.

So due not view prednisone as a cure it is okay for temporary flare ups to get them under control again for a few days only and in the cases of certain illnesses where there are no other options but make sure there are no other options before commiting your dog to it on a long term basis, because it is a death sentence but in the case of certain types of disease and kinder one than the disease it is used to treat.

I know you have been to several vets but have you tried a veterinary dermatologist? There are only a few around. My friend has a dog with severe allergies that required intervention from such a specialist. If you can get to veterinary teaching hospital, you may be able to find one, or ask your regular vet for a referral to a specialist. It was a last ditch effort for my friend and her dog and it worked. Good luck.

It sounds like she may have multiple sensitivities.
Did any of the vets talk to you about food mites?
My mother-in-law made her dogs there food and microwaved it to kill mites. I thought it was crazy at first but it helped her dogs feel better. Unfortunately, I don't have the information she gave me on it.

Try to give your dog fish oil pills. They are anti-inflammatory as well as beneficial many other ways. Give the diet a while to work. It sounds like the dog has been very ill.
