It depends on what environment you are referring to. In an enclosed environment - inside a building - it can create toxic levels of various polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and other gases that are toxic. The smoke also causes deposits of tar and other chemicals on the surfaces of floors, walls, ceiling,s and furniture. People exposed to the smoke suffer lung damage from the chemicals in the air.

In the outdoor environment, tobacco smoke has little effect beyond a few feet from the smoker. The smoke dissipates, and the PAHs eventually break down in the atmosphere, soil, or water, depending on where they end up.

the effect is not only on the smokers but even also on the passive one and envi..
increase in particulate matter,irritation in eyes,release of gases in atmosphere.
