I was recently in a situation where I asked my girlfriend why she loved me and she said she didn't know. Is this common? Should I leave her?

When I read your question, I tried to put myself in a situation to where my boyfriend would be asking me this question. Honestly, there's a possibility I would have said the same thing as your girlfriend. Don't get me wrong, I love him to death, but I believe that would be a lot of reasons to list. She said 'I don't know' not because she's unsure whether she loves you or not, but because people don't fall in love for only one reason. Definitely don't leave her. I'm sure if you gave her more time she could have given a better answer.

Sometimes, the reasons are not readily available, since love is a complex emotion comprising of multiple variables (socioeconomics, personality etc). These variables can overwhelm the human ability to verbally list the ways in which one loves another. I too, am sometimes confounded when my girlfriend asks me if I love her. I just tell her that there is no 'why' as to why I love her, because it just is that I love her, and that is all we need to know.
There's a quote that goes : "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways." Sometimes the sheer enormity of those ways can be momentarily perplexing.

Turn that around, what would you have said if she asked YOU a question like that out of the blue? Love is an emotion, not a reasoned decision. If she really does love you just go with it and stop trying to analyze it to death!

it's common for people to love or not love or don't know if they love. People need different amounts of time to figure it out, there is no set time. I don't think it's a proper question to ask someone whether they love u or not, it's something u should not expect, but something u'd be glad to hear.

lol. I think the important thing is that she does, its not like she'd be with you if she didnt. Maybe she's probli never even truely thought of the reasons before u asked, she just has that 'love' feeling, with good reason im guessing, but just didnt think of them or know what to reli say when u asked..i dont think its a big enough reason to leave her.

you can but that would be overreacting i mean people love others for no reason if you love someone you just do no matter what with out question or reason yes you can have reasons but you don't need a main one to be sincere when saying you love someone i mean you can love the little things about someone which draws out the big picture which is for you..............

I asked my husband one time why he loved me and he said I dont know, cause the way you make me feel... I got so mad because he could not answer it that I started an argument, while sitting in dead silence I remember that I dont know exactly why I love him..
Most of us are scared to say what we are thinking or dont exactly know what to say, I know now why I love him.. and it is because I love him.. Dont leave her she dont know why she loves you because she just does.. and that is hard to find anymore.. good luck

You should never ask a women "do you love me"! You wait atleast a year or two before you ask a women that question.
You ask "Should I leave her?" No! but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

yes it is common scientificaly all love is is an addiction to the cemical that is released in your brain when you are around someone but how romantic is that like anyone is going to fess up on that just let it go if she loves you she will show you by her actions and if not you will know

No. Commenly, love is undiffanable. You can't ask her to tell you in exact detail why, sometimes it's just love. And don't worry, it's very comman. Their isn't a specific trait sometimes, it's just the "X" factor
