I really enjoy law and order programs. I drive my wife nuts by pointing out errors in procedure, tactics, law, and common sense.
The time lines in most of the programs is real funny. Most serious cases take weeks, if not months, to come to trial. But on TV, justice is real swift. Most lab tests also take a long time to get done. Yet on the CSI programs a DNA test and comparison can be done in minutes.
The effect of gun fire is just plain hysterical. Good guy shoots at the approaching bad guy's car. Hood flies off as the engine explodes and the car careens out of control!! I've got to find me some of those bullets. I've been shooting for half a century and have never found bullets that do that.

Most of their investigative practises are realistic, and the going on's between the D.A.'s and police are somewhat realistic. Just realise also that it is TV, which is entertainment, so not everything is going to be realistic.

Not really, because in real lifethings don't always work out like it does on tv. This is why it is on tv, for entertainment, not for it to be taken literally.
