In the state of Texas. I checked with the Dept. of the Texas High Patrol and they told me that it was not against the law for a child to ride in the back of a pick up truck if it had a camper top on it. So I can't see the difference in the two. They told me it really wasn't very safe, but wasn't against the law.

I agree, as long as they are belted in at all times and according to the requirement's of the law, while the vehicle is in motion, it shouldn't be a problem. Just keep in mind that accidents can occur at any moment, and can be just as horrific even if one thinks they are safe in a giant beast of a truck. Semis, roll, Jack-knife, blow out tires.... etc, the bigger they are the harder they fall. Even to the safest of drivers. ( saw a Lil vw jump in front of a semi this last weekend, and the rig had to veer off into the side wall to keep from taking out three more cars .. not a pretty site when it crashed into the wall.

My husbands dad used to take his kids cross country with him if they wanted to go and if they had no school at the time (like if they were on spring break or it was summer). Only one at a time though. They rode either in the sleeper or in the passenger seat and they never had any problems with that. His kids loved going on trips with him. They didnt help him unload or anything (they were obviously too young) but they had fun helping him with the paperwork, eating with their dad at a truck stop, and seeing the sights as he drove. The trips are one of my husbands fondest memories of his dad.
Make sure the kids arent too young though. My father-in-law didnt take any of the kids until they were at least 9 years old.

Only if you have the appropriate carseat restraints that are approved by the highway patrol.
Thats what they told my ex bf who drove a truck and wanted to take his 2 year old daughter out with him on a 2 day run.

Don't see why not. Same as RV. It's the back of trucks where they could be thrown out that is illegal.

They use to be able to. Not sure any more. Check with local law enforcement and see what they say.
