Most dermatologists will say that any sunscreen will lose its effectiveness after one year. Buy a new one just to be safe.

in case you opt to maintain your babies risk-free from the sunlight I advise shielding clothing (hats, long sleeves ...). stay removed from the chemical filters and sidestep aswell the nano-sized metallic oxide filters. formerly you utilize sunscreen you may desire to understand that that's a difficulty of fierce debate precise now besides the fact that if sunscreen prevents epidermis maximum cancers or it will boost the incidences of epidermis maximum cancers (fairly malignant cancer). regrettably the critiques of the sunscreen skeptics are some distance underrepresented interior the favored press - probably because of financial pastimes of the sweetness industry. at the start: cancer and sunburn are brought about by using completely distinctive mechanisms. Sunburn is brought about by using the direct DNA harm it is extra on by using UVB. in assessment the malignant cancer - which motives maximum fatalities - is nearly solely brought about by using the oblique DNA harm that stems from unfastened radicals. Many sunscreens preclude the direct DNA harm yet they boost the quantity of unfastened radicals. Sunscreen is meant to stay on the exterior so as that it does not get in touch with residing tissue. regrettably a small fraction of the chemical components consistently penetrates for the time of the epidermal barrier with time. while sunscreen molecules are in touch with residing tissue and then they're excited they become very reactive and the unfastened radicals that are produced harm the DNA. All this is occurring in spite of this the sunburn (direct DNA harm) is prevented. unfastened radicals reason maximum cancers. In settlement with the lab-records the scientific information teach an better cancer possibility for sunscreen shoppers while in comparison with non-shoppers. See wikipedia: "sunscreen" the sole sunscreen that doesn't penetrate into the floor is Zink-oxide - yet not the nano-sized one. This Zink-oxide (not nano sized!!!) keeps to be on the exterior which makes it unsightly to apply, yet a minimum of it does not boost your cancer possibility.

In Australia all sunscreens need use-by dates so that you know when they are past it. I just bought some and the use-by is Nov 2009 so it lasts about 2.5 yrs.

As far as I'm aware they last about a year after you've opened them. The expiry date should refer to the sealed product.
