i've had anger issues....well my whole life and i've never done anything about it and i finally figured out that by having them and the way i am and act or whatever it causes me to be alone and then that causes depression cuz i cant get a girlfriend or any dates....i've tried hard to change but its just who i am....i thought about pills or therapy but i'm not allowed to go so what else can i do? i've been working for a few years on this and i've seen little improvement and the depression of being alone and rejected increases all the time...i'm not a jerk or anything i'm just quiet and supposedly i just "look" mean and no matter how hard i try to look and act friendly it doesnt work....anyway, thats supposedly the main reason for me being lonely and i want to fix it...

Ok try this, trust me: cut out caffeine and cut down on carbs, and take a vitamin every day. I don't mean to simplify - you'd be amazed at how what you eat screws with your head.

But you do sound like a trip to the doc would do you a world of good. If changing your diet doesn't help, but I bet it would, and the good advice here from these good people, then get to the doc. He'll help you, not make you feel worse.

Good luck.

I agree with the other writer. Why can't you go for therapy and be given medication by a Doctor? If money is the issue there are free clinics or pro-rated ones that you should be able to afford. If you've suffered depression for that period of time, I'm sorry that is a very hard thing to do by yourself. Where are your parents/relatives? Can you talk to any of them. If you're in school a teacher or counselor. Call your Dr. Find a free clinic. There is always a way to get help;

You've already recognized you need help...that is the hardest part. Now, you have to reach out to someone for help.
Don't look at your life and try to find reasons for how you feel.
You can do that after you've started to feel better. Things will be clearer then.

your not a lone on this issue my brother has the same signs as you describe. I know it's hard to change who you are and you shouldn't for someone else it should be your decision. It's ok to not have a girlfriend. Maybe you can join groups that share the same interest as you It helps to know that you have that "sercurity" to have knowlegde of something that you and others enjoy together so you can easily communicate with them. Instead of trying to make new friends that you don't know anything about them. (then you start freaking out like OMG what do I say? What do I do? Well if you are not allowed to get help I would suggest a self help book I know that sounds silly but that's the only thing I can recommened. Your not alone I just want you to know that. I hope the best for you.

Some people are more prone to frustration.
A trick my son was taught at Anger Management was to "stop, focus - how important is this? " . "Really how important is it?" Whats the worse thing that will happen if this certain thing doesn't happen right this minute?
The main thing with that is you stop, instead of getting more wound up. I find myself sometimes I just have to leave something for a while and come back to it when I'm feeling more in the mood or otherwise I'll just make it worse.
It takes practice to relax it also takes some private alone time away from everything that hassles you, every day.

Why aren't you allowed to go for therapy or pills? The anger could be caused by the depression and very likely is but you have to have some help.

i know lots of guys, including my husband a little, who has this problem. he can't stand it when people tell him to "smile!" because he can't. he feels awkward and forced and just uncomfortable...

He has tried different medicines but never stuck to them. I have heard lots of good results with Wellbutrin. I believe that it has less side effects and seems to help.

You probably have some anxiety issues too. You can get medicine to help you with that - xanax for one. Get therapy and then wean yourself off the Xanax.

Okay, I don't normally suggest this but try hard to meet people that live in driving distance online. Getting to know them over the computer will help you to feel comfortable and not as lonely. When you meet in person it will feel the same. :)

Take Care. SD

That is great that you are so well self aware and are making efforts to change. If you go to your local community centre they should be able to advise where you could attend anger management groups. Pills may not be the answer to your issues, I think it is a change of your mindset that will put on the right track.

whatever....anger is anger is anger....i get pissed wicked mad all the time..i have to just stop and tell myself "what the F*&K are you so mad about?...does it matter?...will it change the face of the world? does me getting livid and fired up change anything?...no i just look like an a hole. depression can cause anger, but only at yourself...then you look for a reason to be angry at someone else......get it?
