Yes, that is quite normal. If you get red hair in a black cat, that could be a problem it's caused by and is a symptom a dietary deficiency but can be corrected if treated quickly.

Most of my cats started out with pure black and now have white all over. Its normal.

Not a problem. Bet if you push his fur up his back or sides, you will find a lot of variations. If he is a male, you will find just two basic colors. As a rule, only female cats are tri-colored.

Maybe he is a tortise (misspelled I know) shell, My cat Pepper was all black except for an orange stripe down her nose, but as she grew she is mostly black but white and orange mixed in all over.

Maybe that's his natural fur. I've had animals that do that too. It's not likely that it's of age because he's only 8 months. You should go to the vet and check it out.

Definitely normal, your cat is just getting older and gray hairs are sprouting up as they would on humans.
