YOu have to take the meds your whole life (if the diagnosis is correct, sometimes people get misdiagnosed, However, then you probably have some other nasty mental illness like bipolar, and that one you get stuck taking pills your whole life, too, and mostly the same ones anyhow.).
The meds will have side-effects, and you have to ask your doc how to minimize the side-effects so you can keep taking the pills. A lot of people with more severe mental illness forget to take their pills, so you may want to get yourself a programmable pill box that beeps at you when it's time. You may also be eligible for help from a social worker. You will have to contact your local government for that (U.S. = county, probably. I'm in Minnesota, and get social services from my county for bipolar disorder.) You will also want to fill out a psychiatric advance directive, go to bazelon.org for that info (if you want control over how your illness is treated when or if you are ever incapacitated. You might want to wait until you know more about your illness if you have no strong opinions).
All the best to you! Never forget that you are not your disease, you need to manage it, but you can go off and do your own thing and be your own person in every other way.

I dont think you should count on reaching the "cure", end of medicine taking, but continue doing your best. Yes, after conditions are stable, and the psychiatrist makes a plan to decrease the medication (very slowy), at the end you may not have to take it anymore. However, don't count on it because not everyone can stop taking the medication. -
I am still on medication. and have been on it for almost 5 years. however, the doses that i've taking in the beginning have been significantly reduced. the reduction has worked out well. but when i stopped eating it in the summer (without asking the doctor first) when I thought I was cured, during the winter, symptoms of depression reappeared. So, i suggest consulting with your doctor and asking about reducing medication when you think you are ready. Don't do anything without doctor guidance

to respond to your question, schizophernia won't be able to be cured, someone who has it needs drugs to help stablize the indications of the ailment.each each now and then those who've the ailment may even say they do no longer favor meds or imagine there is no longer some thing incorrect with them, yet in doing that they are at severe chance of having their indicators come back, plus it might want to create more beneficial complications for them.a lot of human beings that've schizophrenia do unlike taking the drugs because of many uncomfortable area outcomes some have, yet that's the reason talking to the physician is so major in a majority of those concerns someone has.Having schizopheria would not make you a lot less of someone, there is lots of those who can lead healthful and effective lives even inspite of the actuality that they have got the ailment.basically had to allow you to know i'm married to someone who has paranoid schizophrenia and is at present on drugs and is doing nicely.

Perhaps one day they may find a cure, so just hang in there. Medication is used to keep the sufferers moods stabilised and really does need to be taken, they will help you lead a normal healthy life. Abrupt stopping of your medication may lead to serious health issues.

My father was Paranoid schizophrenic it is a life long condition. Without the medication you would return to your pre-medicated state. In most schizophrenics lives this would be devastating. I know that the medications can really make a person feel"drugged". Maybe your doctor will be willing to allow you to lighten the doses so that you could function a little easier. Good luck to you-k-

Stay on your meds. Schizophrenia is something that needs to be controlled with medication and therapy.Have you ever read the book "Sybil". Not the movie, the book. She has a somewhat different ailment, but the book goes through how she was able to overcome certain aspects of it. She was never totally cured, but she went on to be productive. Your life has to be dedicated to your treatment. Good luck.

schizophrenia can not be cured. there is freedom from the voices in the form of medication and support groups. there is no cure because the chemicals will be forever imbalanced unless science can find a way to replce the imbalanced chemicals.

No,it cannot be cured. If you stop taking your meds, the disease will come back worse. Then you will need more meds. Don't take illegal drugs with these medications. It makes it worse.
Good Luck.

Please stay on your medication!!! That is the only way you will keep your disease under control. You will need to be on the meds for the rest of your life, just like someone with any other chronic medical condition.

only if you go to the emergency room as soon as it begins. did you know it's legal to call the police if you start hearing voices. if you don't get treated as soon as it starts, there is a less chance of being cured. if you stop treatment, it could get worse and worse. i wouldn't risk stopping the medication.
