I think we use profanity out of habit and ignorance. A lot of young people pick it up to act tough or be cool! It's a habit hard to break, too. If only a person could really "hear" themselves, I think they would be more creative. I think we use it sometimes out of anger and frustration. I think 99.9% of us have used profanity when we hit our finger with a hammer!! D*!!@!!

Because we get so angry that it "comes out". Using profanity is a way to spill out anger ( without REALLY harming anyone else) What I don't get is who decided what the "swear" words are??

Using profanity is a lack of self-control.
If you had self-control you would be able to communicate your emotions-negative and positive-in a different, non-profanity way.

Ya know, That's a good question, I don't know why we say the things we say. I reckon it's a emotion thing...I guess it's just a way to where ...The most common example...stump our toe, It just makes us feel better. LOL. Don't really know but I hope I have been of help.

It is an outward appearance of rage & anger & immaturity. But it does emphasize the sentences meaning.

it is the most common way to express your emotions.... think about it frustration anger helplessness etc all can be expressed by one profanity or the next....
