I was reading about the origin of Baptist and I was wondering if this was still a belief of Baptist ---- The believer must not bear arms or offer forcible resistance to wrongdoers, nor wield the sword. No Christian has the jus gladii. ---- Is this how the modern Baptist church feels? Do they agree with war of any kind - Is self defense acceptable - And one last question - Are Sothern Baptist their own sect of Baptist?

I am a independant fundemental baptist, we are our own sect... Southern also is. We believe in self defense and are pro-gun. We believe there is a time for war, as the bible says. We believe in bearing arms.

I guess that was a "turn the other cheek" type doctorine. I don't think any Southern Baptist would agree with this statement. I don't know where you got it from, but Southern Baptists are not a "sect". That is for Amish and Muslims. Southern Baptists may have a slight variation from original Baptist views, but nothing essential to the faith.

Thou shalt not kill means murder

war is not murder nor is self defence. This is not a sin.

i imagine that peace is the utmost favor and purpose for each Christian. at the same time, Christians should keep in touch about oppression and injustice. this isn't a attractive international. each each now and then we ought to take movements to grant justice in this international. Jesus not in any respect lifted a hand to everyone because he did not come for that reason. in accordance to the Bible, he got here to ultimately "die on the bypass". i do not imagine that pertains to Christians at present who may ought to take up fingers to guard themselves, their households, and their little ones. in the different case, Christianity may nicely be wiped off the face of the earth. Hitler got here very close to to exterminating the finished Jewish race. shall we not in any respect enable any such genocide ensue back. Be sturdy.

I'm not sure about the war part, but if it comes down to self-defense, I'm either going to cause grevious harm to a perpetrator, or he's going to have to kill me.
