If you want a diet, select one that fits your lifestyle the most. But NEVER skip meals. That will only hurt you. Eating breakfast actually helps you lose weight, because it gets your metabolism started. Count your calories, and try to stay below 2,000. Avoid foods that aren't healthy and are hence "Empty calories", giving you no nutrients at all. Fruits are a great way to fill you up and they taste good too, without a giant calorie factor.
Working out for 20+ minutes a day will burn fat, if that is what you are looking for.

All successful formulas for weight loss consist of these ingredients:
Exercise & less food. (Healthy, balanced diet...)
EXERCISE: at least 30 min. . 3 to 5 times per week.
any exercise per day, at first. Start small, and increase daily. Do as much as you can in at least 30 min.
The more muscle you can gain, the more calories you can burn by your body maintaining it while you are resting!
DIET: It's all about portion size, and very little fats and sugar. You can check with a library book, or a doctor.
Here's what I eat, and I am a 5'9" tall female, am fairly active, and have been 145 pounds for about 10 years, and wear a size 12:
BREAKFAST: a bowl of oatmeal or cereal and a piece of fruit the size of an apple, banana, pear, etc...or once in awhile an egg or 2, 3 slices of bacon and a slice or 2 of toast....sometimes I just have a handful of nuts, & a handful of raisins, & a glass of juice.
LUNCH: A 6 inch Subway sandwich, or another sandwich and a cup of veggie on the side.
SUPPER: One meat (a hamburger, or a half chicken breast, or a pork chop...) and 2 cups of fruits/vegetables, 2 breads or a cup of rice.
SNAX: a cup or 2 throughout the day
Drink water, soda is not necessary for life, and not healthy.
Richard Simmons has GREAT advice.
Change is difficult for anyone. You can be strong.

A good diet plan for a female would be about 1,600 calories w/ excersise. A balanced diet with fruits, vegetables and the proper amount of carbs. Limit sweets to 200 calories a day, but don't completely cut them out of your diet, you'll be ravenous. Don't think of it has a diet, but rather healthy eating. Dieting is bad for you, and 95 percent of dieters gain their weight back plus an extra10percent!

Check out the web site Body for Life. I have been off and on dieting for about 6 years now. Nothing has stuck and been easier to follow than Body For Life. I've lost 15 pounds in 1 month! The book is great too, you can get it on ebay...I got mine for 5 bucks! Just look for Body for Life by Bill Phillips....if you follow his plan, you won't be disappointed!

the best thing to do is to try and eat a balanced diet. Try following the food pyramid, and avoid fad/crash diets.
I know it's a lot easier said than done!

drink A LOT of water. go easy on junk food. eat dinner before 6 PM. only thing after 6 should be water and healthy beverages (juice, milk, etc.). plenty of exercise, 1 hour a day (it sounds hard but it's easy if it playing a sport for an hour ie. tennis, soccer, basketball).

Live on all the foodz you hate like liver, bloody heart, sweet bread and day-old okra. That way you won't eat very much. Whatever you do don't fill your refrigerator with food you like to eat, because you will eat more of it than you should. sound pretty duh, but no one ever buys bloody heart, they buy low-fat ice creams and clas and then consume about a barrel-a-day.
