And that he'll never win one again?

Dale Earnhardt won't win another championship because he's dead.

Jeff Gordon won't win another championship because his cheating ex-crew chief bailed to start his own team. Took a couple years to filter through.....

I don't understand why people keep bringing up Dale Jr. He's a crappy driver living off of his father's legacy....but it doesn't change the original question.

Try to stay on topic, children.

I am not a fan of Jeff Gordon, but he would be champion in 2004 if nascar hadn't (sold their soul) changed the points system to excite the tv audience.
Jeff will probably win another, if he stops giving his boyfriend Jimmie his cars before race day LOL.

NASCAR has been crowning a Champion since 1948 and many, many hundreds of drivers have competed for the Title.

Some of the best drivers to ever compete never won a Championship and due to repeat winners, approximately 30 drivers own a Championship from 59 full seasons of racing.

Let's put it this way, if David Pearson had raced full time throughout his career, how many would he have won? Hmm, he competed for 4 Titles and won 3.

It's entirely conceivable that if Pearson had run full time throughout his career, 7 Championships would seem quite a paltry goal.

I still am a Pearson fan and I pulled for him even through the years he had no chance to win the Title due to the limited schedule he ran.

Pearson started 574 races (9th overall) and won 105 (2nd overall) for a winning percentage of 18.29% or a shade under 1 in every 5 races he ran, he won. His number of 2nd Place finishes is also impressive as is his overall Top 5's.

If NASCAR fans only cared about drivers who won Championships, the stands would be nearly empty.

If a driver we pull for actually wins a Title, that is merely the icing on the cake of excitement and fun they weekly add to our lives.

Most of us realize that if our driver or drivers survives the race, competes hard and overcomes adversity to get the best finish possible, that is all we need.

I'm a Junior fan, and he may or may not ever win another race.
Doesn't matter to me because at one or more races he can finish ahead of Johnson or Gordon and those points could deny either a Championship. Just as Pearson cost Petty some Championships.

Ahh, life is sweet.

I was also Senior fan and many of us believe that if he had not been killed in 2001, he would have won his 8th Title that year. He nearly had it in 2000. He was primed and he wanted it bad.

But again, merely icing, as he was fun to watch even if he was competing for a Top 20.

Do you realize that Jeff Gordon has 4 championships and 1 Owner Championship.. That is more than you can say for any other active driver. there are even some nearing retirement who don't have 1 championship. Besides I think he has more championships than Michael Waltrip has wins, or starts this season.

Congrats Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch followers!! i'm happy Jeff gained it, he deserved it. To be hassle-free with you, i would not concepts seeing Jeff Gordon in victory lane, and thats defiantly a threat, yet that's Daytona, and something can and could take place.

If not for the change to the "chase" format, Jeff Gordon wins the championship in '04, and Kurt Busch is an also-ran and a footnote in NASCAR history.

NASCAR should put an asterisk between '03 and '04 to note that championships are no longer won by the same point system from '75-'03.

No, i am a Jeff Gordon fan.He will win again no doubt. He has won 4 already, more than any other active driver. So do you cry when your driver will never measure up to Jeff Gordon? How long has Jr. been racing now?oh yeah he hasn't won 1 single cup championship. So i would take care to make fun of gordon.

I'm not crying. He has won 4 champs and 75 races so far. He is 2nd in points and would have won his fifth champ if they hadn't changed to the top ten 3 years ago. No other current driver will have this many champs nor make as much money as J Gordon has made.

Of course we cry.... cry with laughter at all the people who boo at the man who has become a leader of the sport, at the ripe old age of 35! Jeff is a great leader... and he will win again, and for those Dale fans... remember Dale was a fan of Jeff's as well. Can't we all just get along???

WOW, you make "a half-decade" (aka 5 years) sound like such a long span of time. If case you've forgotten already he is the last to win back to back championships and Jimmie will be the next. Hendrick envy rears it's ugly head again, me thinks.
ps-I'm not even a Gordon fan but you can't deny his accomplishments.

I'm not a Gordon fan, but this year is his best chance.
The competion has changed the last several years with more drivers competing to win, the chances are getting slimmer.
