Because even though we are evolved creatures we are still animals. Animals have one purpose in life, to procreate--seriously.

To fulfill our need to be close, connect with our partner, its a way to express our love to one another however under some circumstances its just about being liberated, gaining pleasure, and responding to a natural urge and desire and of course there is reproduction. But unlike most other animals, we humans dont just have sex to reproduce, we have the ability not only to act under natural instinct but to use our logic and reasoning. Most animals dont have sex because they want to they do it for survival.

To reproduce of course. Also for pleasure. Without sex we would have died out as species and you would not be here asking this question.
