First...did you admit to speeding? The first question the officer asks is "Do you know how fast you were going?" (they ask you that to get you to admit to speeding) ...and you said? If you said "oh, about forty" or something like that, it shows that you knew how fast you were going and probably knew the speeding limit...
Your first answer should be "I'm sorry Officer, I was too busy watching the traffic/road to see just how fast I was going."
After the ticket, you can challenge the ticket at your court date. If you have the time, you have to pay court costs anyway, go down and challenge the ticket. If the officer is not there, you have a good chance of getting off...now some officers will make it a point to show up.
Be reasonable, DO NOT have an attitude and blame the cop and say all those nasty things you are thinking. You want to come across as reasonable and NOT crazy.
You may be able to ask just how accurate the radar is, maybe ask when it was last calibrated. If you're really desperate, talk to a lawyer and get legal advice.
...or you could just suck it up as those before me have suggested. All I can say is that if you're young and you get stopped again, they will pull up your record, and if you have been ticketed before they are much more likely to ticket you again.

Talula, I fear it is too late for you to get out of the speeding ticket. I don't know how it works other places, I live in Palm Beach County Florida. Here we can go to court. The judge will ask if anyone is willing to waive their hearing and allow him to adjudicate the ticket. If you stand at that time he indicates on your record that you are not guilty, you get no points against your license and he sends you to driving school so it doesn't count as your selection to go. He usually will lower the fine to a more reasonable amount. I have done this myself several times and I only learned of this process from a friends teenage son-lol. Good luck -k-

1. Build a time machine
2. Go back in time
3. Work really hard to get the speed limit higher then what you got a ticket for.

If you have evidence that you weren't speeding, then prove it in a court of law. Otherwise, you'll have to pay the ticket.

If your district offers it, you should take a driver improvement class, often times judges will see this and dismiss the ticket, if not it still helps the points on your license.
