I'm making an edible plant cell for a science project and I made the cytoplasm (basically, the cell's structure) out of green jello and I need to add a bunch of candy for the different features... Will it disintegrate?

Yes if you add it when it is hot - no if you wait until it is cooled to "soft set" and add them then. Soft set occurs at about 1/2 the time it takes to the firm set (1 1/2 hours) the push the candies into place with a tooth pick and then allow to set to firm then when you unmold you will have a perfect model.

HINT: For a firm set that is "shelf stable" use Knox gelatin, food color and 1/2 the liquid - this also has no sugar so will not "melt" or attract insects. Good Luck!

Let the jello partially gel to the soft stage, and then add the candies.

If you use hard candies you will be fine. Don't use any that will dissolve when they get wet. Test first.
