no... don't trim the hair less than 1/2 inch or the wax might not be able to grab onto it to pull it out.
Its better than shaving because it grows back slower and thinner, and shaving often causes razor bumps & irritation. And be sure to go to a professional salon that uses cream wax (never honey wax), and not just a nail place or something that also happens to do waxing in the back of the building... lol.

trim it down a bit, You should leave enough so that wax can hold onto it, if you choose to wax. Wax hurts a little more, but you get used to it, and it last quite a bit longer than just shaving. if you wax only do small areas of hair at a time. If you shave, use a gel not just soap... less irritation.

Waxing is very painful doen there. It is better and less painful to trim or shave. or you can wax the top and shave the bottom around the labias....this hurts less and it leaves a nicer look rather than all the shaving bumps you could get by shaving the top. In anyway your part will be a bit irritated after doing anything to it...so be sure to put some lotion after shaving, waxing, or trimming to make it less irritant.

Unless you're REALLY into pain, I wouldn't try waxing down there. Shave it low, then wait a couple of days and use hair removal cream or lotion. If you use roll on deodorant immediately afterward, it helps keep away bumps and itching.
