Not at all. I have tree on the top of my foot and one on the bottom. It was a weird feeling kinda like a tickle. The only time it kinda hurt was when he went over the arch or just below the ankle. Otherwise It was fine.
Then again I have a high tolerance for pain - the ones on my neck didn't even hurt.

Not only does it depend on how much pain you can take, but i think it also depends on how big it is. I had a large tattoo on my left foot that covers the whole top of my foot and part of my ankle. It took about two hours to do, and it was very painful. I went ahead and did the outline and color all in one day. My foot ended up being swollen for about two weeks - but I didn't have to go back to get it finished. Good with the bad. Something smaller would probably take less time, hurt less, and heal faster. It did hurt, but I love it. The first time I got a tattoo (on my wrist), I was nervous about the pain, and the tattoo artist said something that stuck with me. If it's something important enough for you to have the rest of your life - get the tattoo placed where you want it. The pain is temporary, but you're going to have that tattoo forever. Hope that helps!!

2 weeks ago I got an ankle bracelet tattooed all around my ankle. My tattoo has charms hanging down, one of them hangs down the top of my foot, the another goes right over my anklebone. My tattooist knows what I can tolerate, so he only did the outline first. We'll let that heal, then I'll go back for the color, this process makes for a nicer tattoo. I can tell you, it was horrible. Definitely one of the most painful tattoos I've gotten. The ankle is as close to the top of my foot as I'll ever go!

Every one is different so its hard to compare different people and body parts. Plus every part on your own body will react in its on way, so no one can really tell you what to expect.

The foot tends to be one of the more painful areas to tattoo.

My foot tattoo was very painful in comparison to my others though some of my friends found it to be very mild pain.

Its really hard to say. I don't feel pain should ever be a determining factor in something like this, I can understand the concern and curiosity to know what you're in for. I can't really help you and once you start the tattoo its really not wise to stop. I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do.

lets establish everyone is different first. people will tell you many things about getting a tattoo on your foot. the guy who did mine kept asking if i was sure because in his experience, people tend to pass out from the pain. i was so scared after that! i would not let go of my friend's hand, i was on the verge of tears! but i sat in the chair and the guy started...I FELT NOTHING! 30minutes of the buzzing sound and a little uncomfortable spot here and there. he even took $25 off the price because i was a trooper. it all depends on you and your tolerance for pain. also, your body and how it reacts is completely individual. i did not swell at all, it was red for a little but thats it. and as for the actual tattoo, just know it can't be too small because that would be too tough for them to do and not too big because it is a small area compared to other parts. its also a hard area to work on so they may charge extra. i have 3 flowers to represent my sisters right on top of my right foot. another detail you need to think about is color, i am latina and the yellow flower didn't turn up too good so i had to have it retouched. and if you are in the sun a lot you have to think about how it will affect it. feet tend to be darker than other parts of the body. best of luck and remember to breathe before and during it!

p.s: love your icon, dmb is my fav!

I have close to a three inch hourglass on the top of my foot...and I'm pretty tough on pain, but that was insane! I brought a friend with me, and I was hugging him the whole time, it was bad, esp. around my toe bones. Would I still do it? Yea, but man, I wasn't expecting it to be that bad. Good luck!

the one i have on my foot is on my big toe...and kinda goes down the side of it....hurt like a mofo! i thought it wouldn't be too bad, since i had my elbow and parts of the side of my head done but yeah....that foot tatt....the guy had to hold it down, from me shaking.
Though my best friend had just the top of her foot done...and her toes...she said the toes are a bit more painful than just the top of the foot.
