"But if I should be delayed, you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of truth."
- 1 Tim 3:15
Jesus tells us that when we disagree we are to take our dispute to THE Church (Matt. 18:17). He didn't say A Church.
Jesus founded only one Church (Matt. 16: 18-19) that was to preach the gospel to all nations (Mark 28:19).
"The Church" began being called "The Catholic Church" as early as the year 110 A.D. by a Bishop and martyr of the early Church who had received instruction directly from at least one or two of the orgininal 12 Apostles.
"...Wherever the bishop appears, let the people be there, just as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church."
St. Ignatius of Antioch, Letter to the Smyrnaeans, 8:1-2, AD 107
Saint Ignatius was Bishop of Antioch, the first place that the term "Christian" began being used to describe followers of Christ. He was killed for his faith in Christ.

It's because the bible was written by the church. Think about it.

The church is the body of Christ and the church existed long before the Bible. The truth of Christianity spread depsite the absence of a name and/or a book. Christianity is really about relationships and not so much about a book.

Great question.
My personal answer is Jesus Christ founded the Catholic Church so that men may come to a full knowledge of God and be saved through this Church.
Peace and every blessing!

Because when God and Jesus talk about the Church in the bible, they talk about the body of believers, not "a church" in the understanding of the 21st century.
There is no contradiction in your observation, The bible is God's message to us, the church as described the community of all of the truly believing christians as lived by the first followers of Jesus, lots of love, sharing, compassion and mutual support, and no worries about who truly represents God
God Bless you

scratch what you think, scratch what others answer here. for you have to go back and define "church" for that word has been put in place of another word some 122 times in the scriptures. go back to the original, Strongs Dictionary, Greek, etc.
"church" as we know it, call it, is not the proper word to be there. another change "man" has made to a book that said "make no changes". Aren't you glad people listen?
