I think every generation laments the world in which "these kids today" have to grow up. We just have to keep in mind that a different world is not necessarily a worse world. Change is just part of life, neither good nor bad.
Sometimes I wonder about the kind of childhood my own daughter will have as she continues to grow and find her own way in this world. She might not have all the experiences I have become nostalgic about, but she will have childhood experiences that are uniquely hers that she will (hopefully) look fondly back on. To her right now, though, the world is what it is - no better, no worse.
As long as a child has a parent who loves her unconditionally, and teaches her to be respectful of others, she can have a childhood that will become her own golden era.
Hope this answers your question.

There are always going to be differences between generations, but this does not mean that children should disrespect and be "up in the face" of their parents.
I would not so much worry about what your grandchildren will be doing to your daughter, but I would really make sure that your daughter is making good decisions and being safe. Therefore enabling her to be in your position and wonder about her daughter's crazy philosophy.

I think what you have to understand is we have different surroundings, and we HAVE to have an ' in your face' kind of attitude now a days in order to survive.
How she handles herself is what matters.
I don't have the same ideals as my parents on sex, politics, and religion.
My mother still blushes when she sees people kiss on TV, she still has respect for the pope just because he's the pope, and she tries to have faith in this country because it's patriotic.
Where as people in my generation want to see taboo sexual encounters on TV, We don't care about church and religion for the most part because being molested by preists is a very un-cool thing, and we hate george w. bush ..simply on principle.

I don't know your age, but I lived before Dr Spock came along and took the first steps in ruining the children and young adults of America. In my time, pre-Spock, the majority of kids had been taught to respect the rights of others, not to only think of themselves, and not to live by the credo of 'If It Don't Feel Good, Don't Do it..!' The majority of young people then who got a job didn't have the attitude that they should be paid without doing what their employer expected of them. Compared to today, most of them didn't dive into a bottle of booze to have fun, or get stoned to feel good and relax. When mom and dad scolded them or punished them, they didn't scream back and/or stomp out of the room with a "Whatever....."
I saw a bumper sticker once that said 'The Good Ol' Days Are Now.' What a crock..!!!!!

I think you have a point.
it might all be 'in yer face' now, but some old fashioned decorum and manners do not go amiss! You are still the adult here.....Be available for her to talk to but instill some grace and humility, I know it is hard, but to grow into nice adults I think it is important

Yes, we did live in a golden era. Nowadays there is too much pressure on kids and there are too many temptations and evils lurking plus sex, music, dress; it's all totally different. The gender gap has been jumped too, which means the 60's version of woman is now the 2007 version of person with all its gender bender associations.

You, too, will get old.
And when you do, you'll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders..

Persoabnlly the 60s hippies had it best and created the best kids with good values.
These teenagers were born out of the greed, and ruthless competition of the 80s with no care for others left wing ideals.
Hence gangs which are this capitalisim in its pure unrefined form.
There is nothing wrong with sex providing the activity is resonably appropiate for age...
ie 14 think second base... kissy paw paw in cinema.
not full on group bondage kits and hangcuffs.
Religion many know is evil... ie see links
And would see things like stoning, witch burning, inquisitions, poor playboy models abused and their gay mates treated like dirt and should hate religious thinking seeing it as abusive.
Problem is some are becoming dumb enough to think thats ok or walk around with rosey tinted blinkers.
ie the left wingers before would be condeming sharia law as abusive not calling for islamic cultural rights.
Teenagers always had sex...
Its just in the past it lead to back street, rusty coathanger abortions which were horrific, agony and resulted in dead girls, crippled girls or infertile girls.
Or sent to Aunties to live in the country. Till forced adoption (ie biggy ripped from arms).
Whilst anyone ethic or disabled would have been racially abused or treated like dirt and anyone mentally ill was the werdo who everyone could kick and spit at.
With buckets of repression, Peadophile priests and nuns doing whatever they liked as people were relgious and would not believe kids.
Likewise police could be currpt and work with east end gangs as they were considered above approach too.
Rember the victorian Freak shows and oliver twist?
Or how they used to hang children ? for stealing food. Wih deaseases everywhere and brutal bullying.
Then if you were gay or lesbian man that must have been miserable with their treatment.
Of course the pope was the head of the peadophiles
