No disrespect intended, but why do they (so often) put their religion ahead of their personal feelings? I don't mean this in a horrible way, but if Islam is so great then why does it condone such cruelty? And why is it that it's followers are so utterly blind to any argument? Closed minds? No freedom of thought? Just blind sheep mentality without possibility of argument?

99% of the time I think that they stuff they say makes sense but when it comes to personal freedom it's like, you do what you're told or they kill you! Even if you're their son or daughter...

Like I said. No offence but I'm curious?

Cici my point is that Muslims seem (imo) to put religion before all else and I often wonder if that's not defeating the object? Peace to you to. While I will defend myself. I'm not seeking to offend here.

Hello,

Coming from a muslim, I can tell you that I condemn violence on every level, be it by islamic terrorists, or illegal war. I am willing to debate anything you like, although I'm not really sure what your argument is, maybe you could expand your point?

Peace

edit

I can tell that you mean no offence by your question. Your point is interesting, and this problem is probably most apparent when it comes to religion and the State. If God has given us free will, then why should the (islamic) State almost coerce us into abiding by Islamic law? I know all too well this problem, as my family is from Afghanistan and have had first hand experience of state brutality in the name of Islam. I'm afraid you've got me on this one...! The only defence I have is that 'the muslim people' are usually moderate and and the situation is usually the effect of a power hungry minority, imposing this way of thinking.

I hope this helps!

Many Muslims get really into their religion becuase either they have great faith, or they are following their father's traditions, or if they have political motives. All of these can overlap, and the former two can be good or bad.

Islam does not condone cruelty. It teaches compassion. It does however teach that tyrants should be fought against, be the fight violent or nonviolent. It is when people forget who their true enemies are, and when they get caught up in their personal desires, or obsessed with following what their families have taught them, that you get crazy people blowing up innocents.

I'm sure you would find that there are many open minded Muslims that are open to argumant and have arguments of their own. I can tell you now that the reason you do not see us is becuase we often ignore people when we see questions like the ones above that they think generalize and insult, thinking it a waste of time. You seem to be genuine, so I'll answer anyway.

As for "you do what you're told or they will kill you," that's just not true. What you are seeing is Muslims that are caught up in traditions they don't understand. We often confuse our religion with the cultures that we come from. If you're Muslim, your Muslim, if your not, then your not. Its pretty simple. As the Quran says:

Al-Kafiroon
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Say: O disbelievers! (1) I worship not that which ye worship; (2) Nor worship ye that which I worship. (3) And I shall not worship that which ye worship. (4) Nor will ye worship that which I worship. (5) Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion. (6)

No offense taken. Hope I helped.

I'm really sorry to break it to you
but individuality is also stressed in Islam.
As long as nothing goes against the morals of Islam its fine.
It doesn't condone such cruelty, it the people that do things which they are not allowed to do(In Islam).

Your personal freedom is allowed in Islam, but when you live with your parents you are to respect and listen to the all the time. "Heaven is under the mother's feet" as the the prophet (pbuh) used to say. But if you don't agree with something then you have the right to talk about it and see if they can change what bothers you. Its called communication.

And your not allowed to kill, let alone your own children!

After the Bali bombings ,a Muslim colleague said to me "the Americans did it ".I was shocked and I said to myself "we cannot go on living like this".We do not have to hate these people ,but something has to be done as responsible people. We have politicians telling us that Islam is a religion of peace.Do they have their fingers crossed, when they make such claims?
How can people like Karen Armstrong and others say the same and why don't they convert to that religion if they believe it is good.

The way you have phrased your questions, the wordings shows that you have intended to disrespect Islam and the Muslims. It would have been better for you to phrase you questiosn tith good words and manners.
Please have an open mind, not all Muslims are terrorists, like not all Chrstians are terrorists.
Our religeous teachings comes before our personal feelings. We hear and obey what our Lord and His last Prophet told us to do. But it does not mean we do injustice to others. You may have come across and may know Muslims who are not open for discussion, but try other Muslims, I'm sure there are knowledgeble Muslims in your area who will discuss with you with manners and fine preaching.

You shouldn't group millions of people practicing the same religion together like that.

One thing I would like to point out. Think about the times when the Christian cultures were facing hardship - the dark ages. This was a time when there were many atrocities committed under Christianity.

Currently, most Muslim cultures are facing hard times in the middle east. I believe that that has much more to do with it than the influence of the Muslim religion.

The moral of the story is, during hard times, bad things are often justified under the name of God in an attempt to unite people together.

Muslims are not the only ones who are terrified of the gospel, as one can see from the many lies told about Christians that are posted on the internet by religious and non-religious people. But Westerners do not usually take to violence. Muslims are really terrified of the gospel of Christ, for some reason. Just recently some very peaceful Christian friends of mine in an African country were threatened with their lives by Muslims, and Christians are being threatened with bombing if they do not dress like Muslims in another, Nigeria, right now. I and others have been physically threatened when peaceably taking the gospel into certain parts of London. A hardline Somalian cleric called on Muslims to "hunt down" and kill the person calling himself 'the Pope' after he recently (very ironically) said that "spreading the faith through violence is something unreasonable"!

Even in recent years, Muslims have murdered many Christians, especially those who have converted from Islam. Historically, they wiped out peaceable Christians and others from many parts, especially N. Africa.

Muslims are today like Roman Catholics of medieval times. Their usually nervy reaction to Christianity is somewhat difficult to explain. Perhaps they realise that their 'holy book' is not very credible, and this makes them lack confidence in their faith. Perhaps, like some Catholics, they are conscious of the fact that their religion has largely been spread through violence, and this makes them defensive in these democratic days. Perhaps opposition to the gospel is part of Muslim culture, passed from father to son, mother to daughter. Perhaps the threat of ostracism or even death makes them afraid to break ranks. Perhaps it is all of these things.

And why are Christians so obsessive? To the guy at the bottom come come,,do you truly believe every muslim is in the corner right now planning your downfall? That is sad and foolish and its no wonder our world is in the shape its in. As long as there are people like you this war will continue to take innocent lives on both sides. Open your mind not every muslim is a terrorist and nor are all Americans racist..

I think that you have been listening to much too much media hype. Muslims are no more obsessive than any other religion.
You sound genuinely interested, so my advice to you is to seek out someone of the Islamic faith and have a discourse with them. Tell them why you are interested and if you listen with an open mind , you will problably learn a lot more than you intended.
People tend to fear what they don't understand. The more you know , the less apt you are to form fearful opinions.
"A LITTLE knowledge is a dangerous thing !" , so educate yourself and enjoy life.
