Our family will be visiting Chicago in May and we would like to go to a real authentic Chicago pizza restaurant, preferably not a chain. What do you suggest?

I grew-up in Chicago and most south-siders will tell you to order your pizza from a local corner pizza place . Gino's is ok, but not as good as a private pizzaria . Same goes for Giordanos . Both are more like franchises and very commercial .

Put it this way. .. . On the Southside, if you're open, then you must be good . Bad pizza places don't last more than a few months on the Southside . However on the Northside, they'll eat anywhere that's trendy !!!

I live an hour from Chicago and go there all the time. I am always hearing how good Giordano's deep dish pizza is. Another good place is Gino's East. (You can write on the walls, tables, and anything else where there is space available!) Below is a link to the best pizza places in Chi Town. Home Run Inn was rated number one. While you're in Chicago make sure you go to the museums and if possible see a play or musical, oh and visit Navy Pier. You and your family will have a blast on your vacation! (P.S. for hot dogs and Chicago dogs try Superdawg Drive-In, it was featured on The Travel Channel.)

Not a Chicago native, but travel there often. Every time we are there, we have to get pizza at Gino's East.

My personal favorite is Connie's, but you must go to the original location on Archer. The suburban restaurants are just not the same. My second choice is Giordano's.

Giordano's. I live an hour away and whenever we cater food in from Chicago at work, it is Giordano's. It's the best.

Giordano's, Edwardo's, Lou Malnati's, Gino's, & Uno's are the pizzarias to look out for. I wish you the best of luck.
