Can someone tell me what AIT is like? I've heard the Privates get more freedoms and what not. What kind of freedoms? Any information would be great.

Chaplain assistant? Yeah, you'll ge ten times freer than in basic. The only time you have to worry about less freedoms is when you have OSUT (One Station Unit Training) where you do basic and ait all in one big shot with the same Drill Sergeants and same battle buddies. Good Luck Soldier!

AIT is different for all the MOS's. You do get more freedom than what you receive at Basic Training. The best thing to do is talk to someone who has the same MOS's as you will have and talk to them. Most of the time the Soldiers who have been there longer get more freedoms. So do prior service and Soldiers who reclass.

I haven't been in since the seventies, but, basic we were restricted to the company area except for emergencies etc. for eight weeks. Once assigned to your AIT company or battery, you got weekend passes, holiday leaves, freedom to leave the company area and go other places on post, access to movies, the library, the beer garden, the PX, and all the other venues on post. In other words, they treated us like part of the crew, instead of greenie wienees!
