Does anyone know any good recipes for tasty sugar cookies with icing? The ones I tried all ended up tasting like biscuits topped with sugar. I want to be able to make something similar to what they sell at the supermarkets...

Betty Crocker has a great sugar cookie mix. Add some almond extract about 1 tsp when mixing and put in the refrigerator overnght.

As for the icing: (grandma's recipe)

2 cups (or more) Powdered Sugar
1 tsp butter
milk

put powdered sugar in a lage bowl. Add the butter. Add the milk 1/4 tsp at a time while stirring. The constistence should be like peanut butter or like the store bought frosting (fairly thick but spread able).

I make my consistence where it will just barely falls off the knife.

Go to Marthastewart.com do a recipe search for her "Sugar Cookie" recipe (no other title). They are divine...soft and chewy with acrispy edge perfect for decorating...I have made them for years even for a friends wedding as favors. you can add almond extract or lemon to flavor them more. so good...fyi the dough has to set overnight in the fridge better than anywhere!

And a bit more vanilla and roll them out in powder sugar in place of flour. Also roll them a bit thinner.
