Thats weird, my friends cat does the same thing... the only thing I thought of was that they are kinda like kittens(the sock) and the cat may be experiencing maternal instinct and so is treating the sock like a baby.. maybe she considers you her kitten and since she cant carry you around carries your sock..lol Since its the end of the day she might be trying to put you to bed.. as an experiment try going and laying down in your bed, if she is satisfied with that then you know she is telling you her "kitten" its time for bed young man! LMAO

The first thing i'll ask is she speyed? If not, this could have something to do with it!

There are a lot of reasons she would do it. When we sweat, we excrete pheremones, some people more than others and cats can get excited by that, sometimes washing doesn't remove it all (We used to have an armpit sniffer, only did it to hubby, not to me lol)

She might have a condition known as woolsucking or wool chewing. The cause for this is unknown but it is thought to be heriditary, since it's especially common in oriental breeds. Sometimes it can be something lacking in the diet. In other cases, it's because the kitten was removed too soon from it's mother (common in orphaned kittens) and sucks on things for comfort. We have a cat, she's an oriental, she didn't leave her Mom until 20 weeks old, yet she's a wool sucker. She has my son's old Blue's Clue's knitted gloves, she just carries them around and we find them in the oddest places, including the litterbox.. ewww.

I'd say it's a comfort thing for her, you're her man and it helps her feel secure if she has something with your scent on it. Cats choose their humans, not the other way around.

My 13 year old cat sleeps hugging my husband's dirty socks if he can get them. He howls all the time like the world is ending because his best friend (a cat who had been with him since they were both seven weeks old) died last year and he is still searching for his buddy.
Let her have the socks. It doesn't hurt anyone. And when she cries, give her some attention.

It could be that your cat thinks your sock is a part of you like your foot or the skin on your foot. Perhaps when you remove your sock, she thinks you are ripping off a piece of yourself and it distresses her.

Time to get some Odor Eaters!
No, just kidding. Does she seem to be "in love" with you more than your girlfriend? It may be a sort of "sexual" thing. My male cat bites my arm like they do when they mount a female...I'm HIS woman, nobody else's (don't tell my boyfriend!)
Our other cat sleeps on shoes and socks and habitually smells like stinky feet.

My female cat does this with my daughter's barbie clothes and small stuffed animals. When my daughter is out of town, she drags larger toys and stuffed animals out. She makes this very loud yowling sound before she does it. I think it means she is very attached to you and wants more cuddle time with you. You should feel honored! :-)
