I switched to charcoal last summer. It takes a bit longer to prepare. Its not nearly as messy as people think it will be. But there is a huge difference in taste.

Just wondering what folks here prefer: gas or charcoal? And why do you feel this way?

Charcoal is our preferred, but we've also gotten some excellent results from our portable gas grill. We also like to use the cookout calculator at charcoalbob.com to plan our cookouts. We just enter the time we want to eat, prep time for the grill we'll be using and the items we'll be grilling. It does all of the calculations and gives us printable instructions for how to have everything come off at the same time, perfectly grilled.

Being that I am from Texas, BBQ is NOT BBQ if it "cooked" on a gas grill. To BBQ you need smoke. When we BBQ at home we use hickory or mesquite chips, which we add to the charcoals to give our meat an extra yum factor! I've also started to buy the briquets that already have the mesquite wood in it, it is made by KINGSFORD. The meat is so delicious you don't need sauce. BBQing is an art to us in Texas and no self repecting Texan would use a gas grill, we normally just take barrel drums and make barrell grills. The bigger the better, we always buy the 50 Gallon Barrell Grill. They are AWESOME! Check them out at http://www.barrelbbqgrills.com/

Try the mesquite chips or the briquets with the mesquite. If you are not experienced you may overpower your meat by putting in too much mesquite chips. The briquets are perfect because they are already in them.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR Qing THIS SUMMER!

CHARCOAL, no doubt! A charcoal grill gives your food that smokey BBQ taste that everybody loves. A gas grill is no better than using your George Foreman, no special flavor at all.......unless you use "liquid smoke" flavoring to your recipes, which will NEVER come close to the REAT thing! CHARCOAL GRILLS ARE WINNERS, HANDS DOWN! There's no comparism.

I have always been a HUGE fan of charcoal--the flavor is so much better! I always thought that gas grills are pretty much like using a gas stove....so what's the point??

I consider myself a charcoal queen, and will try ANY recipe on my good ole grill!
It's all about that char-broiled taste.

Most of the time I use natural gas for the simplicity of turning it on and off, but as far as flavor goes charcoal is worth it in the end.

I haven't had a charcoal BBQ in years but they really do taste a bit better. Must be the smoke.

Charcoal adds better flavor, but gas is quicker. I wuold love a gas grill with charcoal briquettes.
