I mean, if the attacks were fueled by Islamic religious convictions and a hatred for the west, then wouldn't Imams living in the west be capable of denouncing there attacks while 'speaking their language'?

I don't claim to understand a whole lot about Islam, but I have pretty deep christian convictions, and if someone were to come at me quoting scripture I would take what they were saying pretty seriously.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that this particular type of diplomacy was even attempted. Seems like it was an obvious idea to me. Al-Jazeera would have televised a denouncement of the attacks, and it seems like that would have probably cut down on some of the ensuing acts of terrorism that have been carried out in Iraq and other places.

Maybe I really don't understand the nature of Islam. Maybe there is some reason that that would not have had the effect in the Middle East that something like that would have here.

Most did...We thought it was fake. Never really shown in the west because no one would believe it's honesty.

But honestly to end this war you must talk with the most respected of Muslim clergy from around the world. But that takes something we are no are ready to give.........Honesty, and forgiveness. We see both as christian terms but they are not being exercised in this matter.

As long as Western companies keep trying to get they're hands on middle eastern oil and we keep fearing that someone like Hussein will overrun the Middle East and we keep fighting wars in an attempt to control both problems we will always be under this threat.

The terrorist are still human, they acts are evil. Even the Nazis' were human. To say they were otherwise is an insult to those who fought them then and fight them now. In seeing that they are human you can see they are still capable of rational thought. The problem lies in our cowboy versus Indians mentality. Unless we are honestly ready to attack the middle east with Nuclear Weapons and kill everyone they're then we should immediately seek peace and YES give concessions to our enemy and they to us. There are only two ways to make true peace.......

Total Annihilation of your enemy
or
Total Will to make peace.

I was just about to say something similar- very often, the media covers only the negatives of Islam. (Actually, more often than not). The vast majority of Muslims have been denouncing terrorism, both publicly and in their schools/homes; however, what CNN and other networks choose to cover is a whole other story. Basically, focusing on the very few extremists highers ratings, and gives Americans an evil "enemy" to fight against.

They have been speaking out against it, repeatedly, but the press doesn't cover it. They are still speaking out right now, but no one wants to listen to them. If you will check the international news on the Internet you will discover this.
