i think that a good priest, christian, person would have told that child: "Yes, i am sure your dog waits for you in heaven"...and i would say more if after all when i die there is a heaven and i go there and i dont find this child dog there i will tell god myself to keep his heaven for himself"

If lions are lying down with lambs in Heaven, then why shouldn't dogs be there too? I've had priests tell me that dogs have no souls and can't go to Heaven, but the dog of my childhood was better to me than most people were, and we communicated love to each other. She was loyal to me and a true friend. When I was ten years old and my dog died, my teacher told me that dogs don't go to Heaven. I thought at the time that my dog had a better chance of getting into Heaven than that teacher did! I've never read in the Bible that there are no dogs in Heaven, and I don't think anyone on this earth can say absolutely that there will be no animals there. It seems to me that Heaven would be incomplete without beautiful living things that have given us pleasure and happiness on earth, including animals and plants. When I die, I hope to see my little black cocker spaniel running to greet me after all the years we've been apart.

The book of Revelation speaks of "Living Creatures" in heaven....Rev 4:7-9
I do not agree with you when you say the priest should lie to the child. I do believe there will be animals in heaven, however, not everybody believes this. Our focus should not be on our earthly Mom or Dad, Brothers or Sisters, Wives or Husbands, Pets or Friends.
We should be focused on our Savior Christ Jesus, He is our reward, we look forward to seeing Him and having eternal fellowship with our Lord and Savior.
I believe the Priest should have explained this to the child and then used this opportunity to explain (In 5 year old terms)
Gods love for all of us.
Don't allow anger or bitterness to enslave your heart because you don't agree with his explanation. We are all different, we all have different gifts and different personalities. Maybe this Priest was having a bad day, or perhaps he was caught off guard and mis-spoke. We all say things we later wish we could take back, perhaps he realized his poor choice of words and went back to that child and explained things better.
Perhaps God was testing you to see how you would respond to this, not knowing all the facts or the eventual outcome.
I try and remember to take the Log out of my own eye before I try and remove the speck from someone else's eye.
Be quick to love and be slow to anger.
God Bless You....Peace.

Man. I'm a Priest. And a dog lover. That guy should be shot.

Thomas Aquinas was wrong about animals anyway. Yes. I said it. Where did the four horses come from in Revelation?

Ya. Also, didn't know the priest has been to heaven and knows for a fact that dogs and cats and geese and mice aren't there. Asshole.

Religion sucks don't it? Religious leaders suck, don't they? The bible says god created evil. I didn't write it but it is there in the bible. Christians do not do what you described. Only sorry excuses for humans do what you describe. Ignorance is not limited to just dumb people.

Christ is perfect, not his followers...I don't mean to excuse his actions. Besides, I don't agree with how he handled it or what he said.

I would've said, You know kid, I'm not sure...it's possible though!

Ive heard many atheists tell kids they won't go to heaven...does that make them cruel? Maybe unintentionally.

Shouldn't lie, as the child will always remember that lie. The priest should definitely have more tact; and I would have told him off, priest or no priest.

I can not condone lying, however he could have used better judgement in his answer to a 5 year old.

ps...Jack Van Impe(biblical scholar and prophecy teacher),believes very strongly, that our earthly pets will be in heaven. Non-human animals have souls(mind, will, emotions)but do not have a spirit.

Im sorry, that you had that experience, but you can't judge all christians by what one says. I belevie animals will be in heaven. After all they are gods creation, so why wouldn't they be?
