I know, it was punishment for convincing Eve to eat the forbidden apple. But, wasn't the serpent really the Devil in disguise? So why not take the Devil's arms & legs? Why punish the species Satan took the form of?

Because the serpent was the most cunning of all the animals. Satan might have used him as a mouth piece, but the snake did the deed,(so to speak)

God created the full earth and each little thing in it. He made a particular section, later generic as "the backyard of Eden", wherein he made guy. This backyard had each generic plant and creature generic to mankind at that ingredient. the reason being that the guy replaced into responsibile for naming of all plant life and animal existence and to look after the backyard.
