Smoking will not let you sleep peacefully, drinking alcohol before bed interupps your sleep, caffiene after 5 p.m is bad, sleeping on a full stomach is bad. Being on the computer late stimulates your brain, will not let you rest just like TV. If you are anxious about something, your brain will not rest...... I know this because I have major insomnia.. Depression and anxiety. It's a mess and it does screw with your sleep, making you more of a mess the next day. ( I fall asleep at 6:00 a.m. And that's with all of the above, combined with medicene from my doctor.) I find that sleepytime tea, a boring book (a good one, you won't want to put down), and a couple of prescibed sleeping pills along with cutting out ALL of the above, and you might get some sleep.
Definetley talk to your doc about the depression and anxiety. It could be a minor case at this point. Catch it now before it gets out of control and you're 15 years into it, like me.
Good luck--- oh, and stay away from sugar late also, yes.... I know, the chocolate is most tempting at 3 a.m. :)

More likely anxiety, I have had it for years, until I told myself that there is nothing I can do about anything in the middle of the night, so I may as well sleep, and now I do. Lack of sleep does affect your concentration because your brain has not been getting the rest it needs. You should also try avoiding all stimulation when 'winding down' for bed, ie: computers, phone calls, and anything too heavy on TV. Caffeine and alcohol are both disruptive to sleep.

It could be a result of insomnia. I would seek a sleep clinic to rule out any problems. Such as, sleep apnea, other factors that could be causing your sleep deprivation. Popping pills, not always the answer, even tho many like to do that, and many physicians will prescribe. If your mind races when you try to attempt sleeping, I would consult a doctor and a psychologist. Throwing pills at this problem is not the best attempt to fix it. Find the root of the problem of your sleep deprivation first, find ways to conquer and deal with it on your own before trying to medicate yourself.

yes it can in some cases, however stress is another reason for poor sleeping. Bad sinus problems can also contribute to little or no sleep. I suffer from insomnia and it comes and goes. try drinking a cup of chamomile tea before going to bed, it sometimes works wonders. good luck

I think it might be more due to anxiety then depression - depression tends to result in sleeping too much.
Go see someone. There are medications that might help you get through both.

~Yes, getting a lack of sleep can lead to your day being that much worse. When you are not well rested you are cranky, and tend to hate your life.
~I would reccomend exercise and eating right to help improve your sleep and your life in general.
