We are planning a 40th anniversary party for my in-laws. They would like to renewal their vows under the Catholic church. What issues do we need to consider? They are concerned of having the party to close to 5:00 mass (on Saturday) for those who want to attend and take communion. How does the ceremony differ for a renewal and wedding?

You need to talk to the priest...Inlaws did this a couple of months ago for their 50th...We went to mass, then they called the family up, a short ceremony and it was done...

We renewed for our 15th, you can do a couple different things...we did the whole vows thing over. You can also just do a blessing.

If you are concerned about Mass- why not have the party and then ALL go to Mass and renew the vows during Mass?

Remember, the one hour fast is one hour before RECEIVING Communion- not before the start of Mass. It amazes me how many Cahtolics are ignorant of this.

When you factor in travel time and time after the start of Mass until Communion, you'd pratically need to be eating in the car to break the hour fast- it takes some effort!
