She is 10 months old and my brother put her in a room with her Great Dane. I don't know if she was in heat or not but now her nipples are larger and somewhat pink. She has also lost some of her appetite. What are some more signs that could indicate her being pregnant? I want to make sure I have a valid reason before taking her to the vet to get checked.

To give a really intelligent answer, more information is needed. How old is the male? Has he ever bred a female before? Have you ever seen your female in heat? (Believe me, you'll know when she's in heat! She will have a bloody discharge about halfway through it and her private parts will actually bulge out of her back end.)

Some female Danes go through what you are describing as they approach puberty, before their first heat. They look much like they are pregnant with the swollen nipples and early development of mammaries. But a true pregnancy will last for about 60 days and their bag will droop significantly (as much as 4 or 5 inches under their belly) by the time they whelp.

She could also have a case of mastitis which causes the nipples to become enlarged.

Unless you know that she "tied up" with the male, she's probably not pregnant. But, to rule out other causes for the symptoms you are seeing, you may want to call your vet and ask what he or she thinks. They may not have to see the dog if you give them enough information by phone. It is much better to be safe with her than to be sorry later. 10 months old is way too young for her to be having a litter. She's still got about a year or more of growth before she's full grown. The calcium need, alone, during pregnancy would really hurt her reaching her full potential.

If your dog is pregnant, her appetite would increase. How long ago was the alledged union? I will tell you that pregnancy for dogs is 2 months and 2 days (you can set your watch to it). However, if it just happened (like 24-48 hrs or so), vets have their own version of the "morning after pill" (if that is an option for you). I didn't realize my Shepherd was pregnant at first, but I did notice that she was eating more and if you turned away from your food, she would try to steal it, which is not normal behavior for her. Her nipples grew larger at first as well......you may want to just make sure by going to the vet as it takes some additional knowledge and and preparation before the pups arrive. Better safe and prepared than not. Good Luck to you!!

It is possible that she is but there is also a chance it can be a false pregnancy. The best way to know for sure would be to take her to your vet.
