I have ten (10) bueatiful large breed puppies that will be ready by April 7th 2007. They are all colors with blue eyes-- the father is a registered Siberian Husky and the mother is a smaller Rottweiller. Both mother and father are very loving as will the puppies be. If you have answers or contact information, please let me know soon. Thanks!

Hi, first off congrats on your furbabies! They sound beautiful! We have a male Rottie and a male Husky/Beagle mix (I know I know, odd combo!) They are both sweeties. My dog trainer has two Rotties that are therapy dogs, they go to nursing homes and the childrens floor at hospitals. I do not know much about the process of getting certified. However, I know the first step would be the "Canine Good Citizen Test" (at least that is what it is called in my state, Indiana). Our B/H mix took it. He is not going to be a therapy dog or anything, but a lot of hotels that say they will accept pets will only do it if the dog has passed the CGCT or if they have passed the rate is a lot cheaper. We have a son that will turn 3 this week and plan to start taking family vacations and wanted to take him with us.. Basically our dog had to prove he would listen to us, both on and off leash. He was left alone in a room for an hour (a safe, well ventilated room with safe toys for them) after he had a chance to potty and then the room was checked to see if he had chewed anything, went potty, got into the trash, etc. At least that is how our test went. But as far as puppies,I would start with puppy classes like "Puppy Kindergarten" or "Puppy Basic Manners" to start working towards their goal at a young age. Sorry not too helpful but GOOD LUCK with your cuties!

It really depends on what you're looking to do. Are you looking to give them to an organization that will train them and then give them to other people?

There's no qualifying to be trained as a service dog. You can train a service dog yourself without anyone else being involved and it will still be a valid service dog. If you want someone else to do the training, call some dog trainers in your area. A lot of them know how to train service dogs, and even if they don't, they can put you in touch with a trainer who can.

Some mixed breed dogs can go to hospitals as therapy dogs, but I don't think they can be trained as specific service dogs because of thier medical problems. Most service dog organizations do their own breading.
