Yes, my religion is Spiritism and we certainly learn about compassion and understanding and that's where I find those virtues. Spiritism really makes a moral change in people that follow it, because if you dont make a good job, you are the only one whos going to suffer the consequences. You will be born again and face the problem or the issue over and over, until you learn. For instance, if you're not understanding, you will not be understood in your next life. If you're not just, you're going to find yourself in trouble with justice in the next life. If you treat somebody badly, you're going to be a brother, husband or friend to that person in the next life.
So, if there's no tolerance, even inside the religion, be sure that that person will be a victim of intolerance as well...
Peace!

Christianity teaches compassion and understanding, just as Jesus exemplified and taught. As a result, it serves humanity very well.
However, the presumption in your question is that there is more than one way to heaven. Christianity's standard of truth is the Bible, which does quote Jesus as saying that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. "No one comes to the Father, but by me." Even though some call this intolerant, the way to heaven is offered to all. I would call that inclusionary and tolerant.

Jesus was the best example of compassion and understanding I know. I believe that tolerance ends when people disregard God's Word and Laws by sinning against Him.

It teaches compassion and understanding toward people. Should it be tolerant toward beliefs such as "Jews are parasites and must be eliminated" and "sex with toddlers is acceptable"? What do you think?

Jesus was always humble. He taught with a pure heart. some of Gods children of the past and present have been quite hostile. That's cuss they follow themselves not God. A true christian, is humble and always turns his cheek, And will die for his beliefs. They will forgive, and always show hospitality. Just as bible instructs them. We should always preach the Gosple to whoever will listen, and walk in spirit and truth.

I agree with your point entirely, but I don't think the point of many religions is to serve the benefit of humanity

I don't have a religion. Been there and done that one. I am a member of the body of Christ, blood bought born again. I use only the Bible for study.
